How does it work?
I had a look today on the presales for the Kiss final shows in fall 2023.
Tickets which are supposed to be initial sales (by opposition with the second market à la Viagogo) have yet changing price every minute. Sections 200 were moving from 500 USD to 1072 USD in a matter of 60 minutes. No fixed price at all for every section.
Explain please.

Saw Ricky Gervais in Helsinki tonight. He told all proceeds from his Platinum tickets go to charity. Maybe others should take note.

Peter Gabrial tcikets went on sale today for a few more cities in the USA As soon as the tickets went on sale, the first rows where already being sold as a higher price for resale. How the heck were these tickets gone even before they went on sale. Ticketmaster is such a scam.

Was there a presale before?
That would explain it. If there were presales earlier on the week, people had time to buy up good seats and list them.

My own guess is the front rows would be artist seats they take control of and use a point of sale system or a preferred broker for access to the secondary marketplaces which would show up as red dot resale tickets. Otherwise they would almost certainly be listed as blue dot or gold star platinum tickets.
Those same seats are likely listed on all marketplaces.
But resale usually doesn't go live until after the presales. However I am no longer buying tickets (personal use or resale) so my knowledge is also fast becoming obsolete. (if I wanna go I just show up at the appointed time)
As Robert Smith has now substantiated, the artist has control over all ticketing. Whether or how they exercise that control is another story. In most cases it's likely a "this is what I pay someone else to do" type of situation.

The Perfect Boy
Revealing the depth of Robert Smith’s involvement in the band’s career, Mitha tells IQ, “Robert is the only artist I know in the world who discusses ticket prices, sightlines, scalings with every promoter – it was the same with the 2016 tour. So, when you send over scaling plans with those colour seating maps and everything, he literally goes into every detail and changes the colours. It must be crazy time-consuming for him, but he’s very involved.”
Spanish promoter Mercader comments, “They care deeply about the ticket prices – the only other act I can think of who care to the same extent is AC/DC. Robert wants sensible prices to make it as affordable as possible for all fans.”
It’s something that Hopewell knows well. “Promoters will put forward a ticket price they think is achievable and a lot of the time Robert will come back and say thank you very much, but I think the prices should be lower,” he says. “He’s also very keen to see ticket scales that are neatly structured rather than appearing to be haphazard from the fans’ point of view.”
Production manager Broad notes the positives, “Robert is like management. He wants to know the sales numbers, how everything looks, where everything is – he is very hands on. It actually has its advantages: if anyone asks ‘Why do you do X?’ we can answer, ‘Because Robert wants to!’ And that’s the end of the conversation.”

Robert Smith deserves a lot of credit for putting his money where his mouth is as far as making everything fan friendly goes. As the tour sold out almost instantly it shows at least some people were paying attention. The pricing extends to merch, too. The Cure charge $25 for shirts where a lot of bands are charging $50 now. A lot of the bands I like try to keep things real for the fans.

This is pretty interesting. I wonder if others will follow:
The post Robert Smith Says The Cure Have Canceled 7,000 Scalped Tickets to Their Upcoming Tour appeared first on Consequence.
Robert Smith’s efforts to go after scalpers have resulted in the cancelation of 7,000 tickets to The Cure’s upcoming North American tour.
As part of the on-sale process for the tour, Smith opted out of Ticketmaster’s “platinum” and “dynamically priced” ticket options, and restricted ticket transfers in markets where he was legally allowed to do so (New York, Illinois, and Colorado have all enacted legislation protecting resellers).
As a result, according to Smith, “Approx 7k tickets across approx 2200 orders have been cancelled. These are tickets acquired with fake accounts / listed on secondary resale sites.”
