OT - RIP - Dan McCafferty - Nazareth lead singer.

Scottish hard-rock legend Dan McCafferty has died at the age of 76.

He was best known as the lead singer of the band Nazareth, of which he was a member from 1968 until 2013, when he retired from touring. In 2013, McCafferty announced his retirement from live shows due to his chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) worsening and a burst stomach ulcer.

Bassist Pete Agnew paid tribute to McCafferty on the band’s Facebook page on Tuesday.

He said: “Dan died at 12.40. This is the saddest announcement I have ever had to make. Maryann and the family have lost a wonderful loving husband and father, I have lost my best friend and the world has lost one of the greatest singers who ever lived. “Too upset to say anything more at this time.”

Wow, rest in peace Dan! They were always popular in Canada, recorded their Snaz live album in Vancouver in 81.

Axl Rose modeled his entire vocal style on McCafferty, nice story about him taking the Band out and he spent the entire night talking intimately with Dan about vocals

I had the pleasure of seeing Nazareth open for Ted Nugent back in the 70's. What a voice Dan had! By all account, a fine human being, too.

A personal favorite:

RIP Dan. I saw Dan & Nazareth play mid-1980s at Market Square, Saint John, N.B. Canada. Great show. First 8-Track I ever owned was Razamanaz. (Circa 1974.) Think I'll give these 20 tunes a listen or two today. Enjoy Dan's truly unique voice.

I’m sad to hear this horrible news. Dan had a gifted voice always delivering goods. Saw Nazareth in 80s. What a performance. RIP Dan.

Yes, a scorcher of a rock track and one of my all-time faves.
RIP, Dan

Had no idea that another member of the band had passed earlier this year. Now only 1 original member still alive. A damn shame.
