Torino Film Festival to Open With Beatles, Rolling Stones-Focused Special Event

"OPENING NIGHT 40 TORINO FILM FESTIVAL

For the first time in its history and in collaboration with the Teatro Regio, the opening night of the Torino Film Festival will be broadcast live on Rai Radio3 as part of Hollywood Party, the historical program that has been recounting cinema on the radio for the past thirty years. The broadcast will then be available on RayPlaySound.

The idea is to tell the story of the link between the Beatles, the Rolling Stones and cinema in 70 minutes, with interviews and rare or unreleased footage that will be visible to the audience in the theatre and heard via audio for the radio listeners. The two most famous English pop groups have in fact a very intense bond with cinema, in which they appeared as actors and producers as well as, of course, soundtrack writers.

Their history features relationships with Richard Lester, James Bond, Jean-Luc Godard, Mario Schifano, Jonas Mekas, Wim Wenders, Martin Scorsese as well as many other films and titles.

A tale of connections that will be analysed by the Hollywood Party hosts along with Malcom McDowell, Noemni, Vincenzo Mollica, John Vignola, Francesco De Gregori and other guests who will join them.

And no mention of the most important filmmakers associated with the Stones, the Maysles Brothers? They should be mentioned first. I don't consider Scorcese's involvement more than he shot a concert of the aged Stones. It certainly wasn't any better or more important than the Biggest Bang DVD set, and those directors aren't mentioned at all.

Nice city. The cinema museum alone is worth the trip.

Scorcese rarely, if ever, makes a movie that does not include at least one Stones song in it. There’s far more than just Shine A Light.

As Mick Jagger said, Shine a Light was the only Scorsese film not to have included Gimme Shelter.
