Stoned Cold Country: A 60th Anniversary Tribute to The Rolling Stones Star-studded tribute available in 2023

In celebration of The Rolling Stones’ 60th anniversary, some of country’s biggest stars have come together for Stoned Cold Country, a forthcoming tribute album filled to the brim with reimagined versions of the legendary rock band’s catalogue, to be released in 2023 on BMG.

Throughout the record, which was produced by Robert Deaton, the participating artists – Jimmie Allen, Brooks & Dunn, Brothers Osborne, Eric Church, Steve Earle, Elle King, Marcus King, Little Big Town, Ashley McBryde, Maren Morris, Elvie Shane, Koe Wetzel, The War And Treaty, Lainey Wilson & Zac Brown Band – all inject their own trademark style into the revered music of The Stones across Stoned Cold Country, creating a powerful homage to one of the most enduring, trailblazing and influential bands in the world.

The first taste of the project arrives with the release of Brothers Osborne & The War And Treaty’s soulful rendition of “It’s Only Rock ‘N’ Roll (But I Like It)” on Friday, November 4th.

“This album is country music’s thank you to The Rolling Stones for 60 years of inspiration and providing the soundtrack of our lives. While recording the record, I was reminded that this is a showcase and spotlight on the best we have to offer as a genre,” Deaton says of the project. “From our artists to all of the musicians that played on the record, we boldly state that country music is second to none when it comes to artists of integrity and creativity.”

Country Honk: Rolling Stones tribute planned for Country Music Association Awards

KSLX | November 1, 2022

It’s only country music, but they like it … and rock ‘n’ roll, too.

A tribute to The Rolling Stones will be part of this year’s Country Music Association Awards, airing on ABC November 9. During the three-hour show, award-winning country duo Brothers Osborne will team up with Americana husband-and-wife duo The War & Treaty to sing “It’s Only Rock & Roll (But I Like It).”

The performance is in recognition of a new album called Stoned Cold Country, which features some of country’s biggest artists performing classic Stones songs, including “Wild Horses,” “You Can’t Always Get What You Want” and “Dead Flowers.”

The Brothers Osborne/War & Treaty duet is being released as a single November 4, with the album to follow next year. Other participating artists include Zac Brown Band, Elle King, Steve Earle, Eric Church, Maren Morris and Brooks & Dunn.

I guess with morbid curiosity I'd like to see how Satisfaction and SFTD turn out as country songs...but I'm a little wary but I'll reserve judgement.

I guess maybe I'd prefer them to focus on actual country or near country songs the Stones have done. There's a lot of them.

Hmmm...sounds interesting. Myself, I still dig this album regarding covering the Stones - All Blues'd Up: Songs Of The Rolling Stones. Would love to hear the Stones do Satisfaction as Junior Wells does it - what a jam it could be in concert.

Maybe the Stones should consider something like they did with Johnny Cash a ways back, he put out a triple album set called "Love, God, Murder" with each album having one of those 3 themes, or like Vince Gill did in a 4 album set each with a different style of music, and maybe put out a reggae set, blues set, country set, ballad set, etc. No need to have them reinterpreted by other artists

That live version is great. I've often thought that IORR works (even) better in the key of E at a slower pace than the Chuck Berry style live versions in B.

Have to agree. Sounds fantastic. Would be great if they reworked it live like this. As it is now, it’s far too predictable and boring, IMO and one of the low points of a show. I for one am glad it was dropped for other songs.

Kinda surprised Miranda Lambert is not on there, I liked her cover of Wandering Spirt on her last album.
