i have the original vinyl boot with that cover

but i have no idea if this version is better or worse

aren't all the boots of this show sourced from the same c90 cassette stolen off the soundboard by a fan when the sound guy wasn't looking

i would then assume the original vinyl would sound the best since it's source from the original tape not long after it was recorded

One of the best boots ever, pity about the incomplete SFM, he could've waited a couple of mins to snitch it....

I have it on tape from the original vinyl, great sound

I have a couple of copies of this boot.

Garden State 78 and Out on Bail.

I think one of them has a single with SFM and Satisfaction but I think they are from another show.

Sounds like a Vinyl Rip with a little hiss. I remember Out on bail (TSP) clearer.

Uh huh...most of these were set to be aired on the KBFH shows if not for all the F-bombs and such. I think only a version of Honky Tonk Women from this tour was able to be broadcast, surprisingly, without censoring if I remember correct.

Not Passaic. They recorded Detroit, Houston, Memphis and Lexington and parts were aired by KBFH in 1979 and later, both censored and uncensored.

They added some kind of stereo effect or whatever it is. But it sounds - to say it nicely - strange! Especially the segmets that are already in stereo on the original. And there is hiss and crackles and the sound is sometimes dull and it runs too fast. If you want the best quality, get the vinyl or VGP-278 [iorr.org]

There are 2 mixes circulating. One of them, never aired afaik, is called "FM-Mix" and comes with slightly louder audience.

One is on TSP 064-2 and VGP-253, the other (original) one on LP and VGP-278. The 1st one has a cut between Love In Vain and the band introductions.

I was a young 15 yr old and my best friends brother had won tickets to the show on the radio (WNEW).
His brother got sick and I was his replacement.
Their father dropped us off and picked us up after the show in Passaic.
This show set the scales high for anything I saw after this.
It was a hot steamy night in Jersey.

I probably still have the cassette of this show (not stolen from the board, Ha!)
I remember the show was broadcasted on WNEW, which was the version I had on cassette.
Good times!

Why would bootleggers bother to make records of mediocre-sounding recordings of the show if it was broadcasted on the radio?

Loved Out on Bail. Once Handsome Girls and Live in Texas emerged, they were even better.

Agreed. As much as I was excited by Garden State 78 with its glorious cover, the flat-sounding recording was disappointing. And I felt all that hissing so distracting and frustrating.

Yes! The Handsome Girls 4-CD box set blew away GS for me.
