OT: Dark Star Orchestra (Dead tribute)

Saw these guys live last night at Olympia in Paris. Pretty cool show!

The deal was they were commemorating the Dead's European tour 50 years ago. The Dead played that same venue on May 3rd 1972, and last night the band played the exact same setlist as the Dead did, it was very well done. Another thing I learned was that the guitar player was playing the exact Stratocaster that Jerry played that night.

Any fans of this tribute band?

Saw them once in Salt Lake City. They sometimes recreate specific setlists and shows, other times assemble their own setlist.

No. I'm an anti-fan of the group itself, so seeing a tribute band would be pure torture. Do they recreate the gargling buttermilk harmonies?

I attended the show. It was great and I was very moved by the reaction of the public (many americans Dead Heads of course !). The atmosphere was amazing. To see those people expressing their contentment was incredible. Even if the Olympia hall was not full for the first visit of the band in France, the venue really vibrated very strongly ! What a night !

Ha...I must have been pretty close to you, I was in the 4th row, slightly to the left of your photo along the aisle!

There was indeed a great atmosphere...I wish there were more Dead tributes in town (I don't think Dead & Co. will ever make it to Europe)...

Never saw them live but got a few shows from the LMA. They are doing a food job.

What's the LMA? A restaurant?

LMA = Live Music Archive (part of the Internet Archive)

Back in the 2000s the LMA was organized in a much more transparent way. A bunch of years ago there was a general makeover and now it's not always easy to spot a particular show (or to browse shows by date).
