I think they played both new songs for 2 or 3 shows. I can't remember exactly but it wasn't much.

Which is really weird. They'll never have the success they had in the mid to late 1980s (who the hell will at this point?), or for that matter even up through 1994. They may be more of a classic hits indie rock band at this point but the fact that they've put out new albums in 2007, 2012 and 2016 amongst their old record label releasing box sets or expanded reissues of their 1980s albums, and the newest album coming out October 7 of 2022... they keep creating and going.

I've always looked forward to their new releases but this one coming out this week, UNDER THE MIDNIGHT SUN, I'm the most stoked ever about. The last two albums they seem to have found some kind of maturity with who they are. Based on what I've heard of the new one, they've now re-soldified their sound in a way more so than on anything previous. More like their essence via DREAMTIME than anything, which is really cool.

Happy to see excitement for The Cult!!! My album rankings are a lot different though!!!

CHOICE OF WEAPON is superb. It's probably my second all time favorite Cult LP.

UNDER THE MIDNIGHT SUN is absolutely incredible!

Ian Astbury gave up on the aspect of the long player, the album, regardless of format, in 2010. They released two capsules (EPs).

They signed with a UK based label in 2011.

Since then they've released 3 albums!

They're not the Stones. But they keep going and producing new music!

They could tour forever based on three albums outside of the total of now eleven albums.

They don't.

They're interested in creating. It's simple: create and play new live or just tour based on past hits.

The Stones are signed to a huge record label. The Cult have been and are signed to an indie label. Yet they continue to release new music.

Possibly their best LP ever.

Amazing. Magnificent.

If this was released in 1985 instead of LOVE... or even in 1991...

Just as with whatever album by the Stones, if it was released... how elements bring back essential aspects of true sound, essence...

The Cult have gone beyond capturing that with UNDER THE MIDNIGHT SUN.

Listened to Midnight quite a few times today. It is indeed a very good album - it could have been released anytime from Southern Death Cult right up until Love and it would have fit in nicely, soundwise. It's a slow burn for sure!!!

It was recorded where they recorded DREAMTIME. Bizarrely it has a lot on it that would fit on DREAMTIME.

I think the title track is my favorite.

Great, but 8 songs? I take it there's no bonus tracks available. So this is sort of an extended play "capsule" then.

A rare thing these days... or since 1990 whatever!!

UTMS is absolutely brilliant the more I listen. It's not one of those 'oh this is the sound of ABC previous albums combined' ala SONIC TEMPLE, which wasn't that, really. THE CULT was that.

This is beyond anything they've ever done.
