Re: Ronnie solo catalog ...

"Gimme Some Neck" was a major college staple. Fun record, production a little dated. Saw the Barbarians at The Cap Centre in Largo Maryland (no special guests) As far as Woody singing live, a little goes a long way. Pretty painful on some tunes. Mac, om the other hand, sounded good- up till then I didnt know he could sing.

I think the word 'dated' is being kind, LOL. Very good songs IMO, but it is the worst production/mix ever on an album from Stones world.

Hey, Ronnie owes us an album! Wasn't he supposed to release 3x tributes? ... Chuck Berry, Jimmy Reed, and ________?

Listened to Gimme Some Neck front to back today. Love the songs. Produced by Roy Thomas Baker who did The Cars first album as well as Candy-O the same year as Gimme Some Neck. Given how great the Cars record sounds, how did he butcher Ronnie's so badly?

I love Gimme Some Neck. It has a lot of nice songs. Buried Alive, Seven Days, We all get old, Come to realise.. It's my favorite Ronnie album by far.

I started this little topic because i love his solo work..
but those last couple tribute things were kinda weak.
However he has a couple of songs on other tribute albums where there properly recorded in studio and are great.

Overall, I guess you're probably right, but still there are at least 3 on each that are worth it - I just need to re-listen to remember which ones, off the top of my head, Wee Wee Hours is great. And Shame Shame Shame, although there's no real way to mess that one up.

He should do a Stones tribute album to close it out.

Ronnie Wood

My friend Ben Waters was asked by the band Roeck if he’d play on their cover of my song Outlaws to mark 40 years since I wrote it. I really like what they’ve all done!

Who's playing piano on Ronnies song? Nicky Hopkins or Ian Mclagan?
First time I heard it, I thought it sounded like Stu.

Just as long as the guitar plays, let it steal your heart away

I think Mac, Nicky and Ronnie are the only ones playing keys on the album. Must be Nicky, then.

Nice kick-ass rocker, great lyrics!

Hell no. A stupid, boring 'song'. Had Dylan re-written the lyrics, so he might have had a some kind of album filler or a single B-side.

I love Ronnie...

But "Outlaws" is just plain awful.

While not as cringe as "F.U.C. Her" it's still just pose and formula....a real nothingburger.

Bill made much better use of the Pointer Sisters' voices on Monkey Grip.

They could reinvent it and release it as a new Stones tune with Mick overdubbing some brand new vocals.

I actually quite enjoy this song. Was listening to it the other day. Although I might be one of the bigger Ronnie fans than most... My name is a giveaway haha

Ronnies "If you dont want my love"

this track track is so smooth. another song that if done by the stones might have had a better life . I could picture it as a some girls or steel wheels track.

I love this song. Womack's vocals are of course stellar in his original version, but overall I'd say Wood's rendition is better. We get great vocals by Wood and Womack, and the band's arrangement is IMO much tighter.
Ron Wood is a funky guy. On 'Now Look' especiaLLY.

Why don't they re-do some of Ronnies numbers while they can't agree on their new material

Love it, this summer I had Ronnie on a lot, rediscovering those first few in particular. Got My Own Album, 1234, and the wonderful Now Look. Hadn't heard Now Look in quite a few years and enjoyed the playing and songs immensely. Wonderful stuff indeed!

...isn't it?....RW is often overlooked for his many many wonderful gifts and contributions....too bad he hasn't been able to get in on more of the writing with the Glimmers...
