Hope it's not the last time, but you never know this late in the game...the future's uncertain, and the end is always near...

As Keith said at the beginning of his set: "It's great to be back, especially in Berlin. Because you never know what's gonna happen, really" (laughs).

So true, let us hope !
The end is sure near ... but not now.

By the way, another notable moment on the Keith-Set was that he said "Guten Abend" at the very beginning!
Has Keith ever spoken German on stage before?
I can't remember ever hearing that at my German concerts....

Lots of love for Keith.

And Mick.

And Ronnie.

Someone previously mentioned having an "empty feeling" now that the tour is over, but I have a heart full of love, the utmost admiration, and also a sense of amazement...
Once again they made it, and while there were several hurdles this summer, they finished it off on a very high note w/an amazing show with a fantastic setlist in a beautiful venue.
From my vantage point thousands of miles away while following along from one show to the next here on IORR, would have to say this was the very best of them all for a variety of reasons.
Thinking of Charlie and how much he would have loved to have been celebrating the 60th with the others...in that sense there's an empty feeling, but otherwise mission accomplished.

Coincidentally--to me, anyway--just yesterday, I was looking into the most "Exile" songs stacked into a single set in recent tours (of the 5-6 still in rotation). There were these same four in Detroit in 2015. Damn near an "Exile on Main Street" 50th anniversary feature!

Reminds me, I was recently doodling with the 15 song setlist we got in 1972 (saw 'em in Norfolk) and counted six Exile songs. Do you know if there were ever that many again? My guess is unfortunately "no."

Hey there! I am admittedly overly focused on setlists, so I did manage to piss away a good hour or so looking into which songs they played awhile back. Here's the last time they played songs from Exile--there are a few surprises, and some never heard live (updated today):

1. Rocks Off (2022)
2. Rip This Joint (2003)
3. Shake Your Hips (Never)
4. Casino Boogie (Never)
5. Tumbling Dice (2022)
6. Sweet Virginia (2022)
7. Torn and Frayed (2002)
8. Sweet Black Angel (1972 once)
9. Loving Cup (2014)
10. Happy (2022)
11. Turd on the Run (Never)
12. Ventilator Blues (1972 once)
13. I Just Want To See His Face (Never)
14. Let It Loose (Never)
15. Stop Breaking Down (Never) [corrected to 199...4?]
16. All Down the Line (2022)
17. Shine A Light (2017)
18. Soul Survivor (Never)

Seven Exile songs were played live when they played Sweet Black Angel for the only time. My uncle was there. Here’s the setlist…

Right, as I learned years later Fort Worth was different, they did more songs those shows because they were filming the tour movie... and they rehearsed even more there than they played in the shows.

The first show, Vancouver, they tried out other Exile songs, so that probably was the most ever played; I haven't looked back up that setlist, but they might've gotten eight.

Most shows that tour got the same 15 song setlist, though.

I was wondering if after 1972 they ever played 6 (or more) Exile songs again in a show. Still guessing No, unless it was early '73 Australia.

Liking that the boys showed EOMS some love in their final show of the band's 60th and the album's 50th anniversary summer.

I looked 1972 Vancouver's setlist, of 18 songs. Of course it was a try-out/warm-up/experimentation show, and, while I've never heard the bootlegs, by some accounts a bit of a mess.

Still, 18 songs... in 1972!

And of the 18, NINE were from Exile On Main Street:

Rocks Off
Tumbling Dice
Happy
LOVING CUP
TORN AND FRAYED
Sweet Virginia
VENTILATOR BLUES
All Down The Line
Rip This Joint

So, yeah, I'm sure Vancouver '72 has to be where the most EOMS songs were ever played live.

Looking at JivinSisterFanny's list of Exile songs played and not, two songs I always especially liked, Shake Your Hips and Just Want To See His Face, unfortunately are two of the few to have never been played live.

Everyone who likes Shake Your Hips, I invite you to enjoy Joan Osborne knocking out a great cover for a radio show in 2012... later to be released on her own Womanly Hips record label.

I also enjoyed seeing her perform it live just a few months ago on her Radio Waves tour.

Stop Breaking Down was played in Miami in 1994 at the PPV concert. It was played with Robert Cray as a guest.

It's funny how official photographers only work on the first few songs when they could get so many fantastic shots later on.

They often have to leave after the first few songs.

I imagine there's a rule but do you actually think they have to leave? In that case a reviewer could consider himself lucky

the reason that they leave so soon is very simple: They have to leave early to get their fotos into next morning's (printed) newspapers

it's a rule mostly to protect the fans and band from having photographers in front of them all the time.

For decades, the "3 song rule" has been standard protocol. The publicists who issue photo credentials inform the photographers in advance. It is very unusual for a photographer not employed by the performer(s) to be allowed to shoot longer.

An antiquated and archaic practice. But they, like the Stones, hold on.

So a little review from me.

Waldbuhne, finally! Stop 5 on the tour for me and the last one.. Brutal weather and no organisation outside made it a long and difficult wait. Why does it seem like nobody can organize anything proper these days?

Venue was fantastic, amazing etc. Loved it. Heard ADTL and FTC while waiting so knew we where in for something special. Beginning of te show the sound was a little soft for me. This was fixed after Keith's set. Then it was the best sound I have ever heard at a concert. So great. Stones where on absolute fire. Keith not moving around as much as Paris, but much more than for example Amsterdam played amazing. I have not seen Ronnie happier on this tour than today. He was running up and down and playing fantastic. Good to see Ronnie this way. Also fantastic to see how close Keith and Ronnie are. They love eachother so much. Much less chemistry between Mick and Keith than in Paris where they were BFF again.

Sasha killed it at GS, with a beautifull dress. Midnight Rambler furious again. At HTW Mick got to see some boobs again (I filmed it but won't put it online, lol).

So what a tour it has been. So many highlights. The level of the shows where just amazing.

Ruby Tuesday in Munchen, Can't you Hear me knocking in Amsterdam, that bizarre good Midnight Rambler from Paris, the amazing Brussels affaire, Fool to Cry in Berlin. So many new friend made. Also in Berlin. The pre-party where i could share my love for the Stones in a way none of my real life friends understand. My best ever show at the Waldbuhne (20 shows, with 3 this tour in top 5). This was Stones heaven. And if this was it, I got my satisfaction.

1. Berlin
2. Paris
3. Brussel
4/5. Munich/Amsterdam

He also said that Berlin will be the next DVD/Blueray release which was also wrong - they didn't have any additional cameras in Berlin. Some people just claim things so that if they come true they can say to everybody "I told you so!"

This talk about filming for a DVD release had better grounds the last time they played there. If you look at the respective thread there are not only telltale signs but literal signs posted around the venue informing attendants that by being on the premises they agreed to have their likeness recorded for "potential broadcast and distribution throughout the known universe" That didn't happen yet but it shows that they tell the audience what they're planning to do if just for legal reasons.

I thought the show was utterly fantastic. We were standing in the pit, about a meter from the small stage. I don't care about the mistakes -yes, they all are getting old. Richards sometimes seem to have difficulties remembering, but also Jagger needs a prompter for some of the lyrics. I don't care.

The Waldbuhne is hands down the most amazing arena in Europe. There simply is no bad seat in the house. There's 22,000 people, but it feels like 6,000 or so.

I thought the show had the best ever sound I ever experienced, it was just amazing. Keith's LP Junior through a Fender Twin at a million decibels during Sympathy and Satisfaction is something I will always remember.

40 years being a fan could not have ended better than this.

No additional cameras.

Do they really need additional cameras? At the sound-tent they have 2 of these TV-like cameras with ~300mm lenses. And with a modern 4K-camera you could record more than you actually see on the stage-screens.

I've counted 6 cameras at Berlin Waldbühne:

- 2 cams (on shoulder) left/right at the inner edge of the catwalk
- 1 cam (on crane) Ronnie's side, capable filming also the audience
- 1 cam (on shoulder) behind Matt Clifford / Karl Denson/ Tim Ries
- 2 cams with ~300mm lenses (on tripod/scaffold) over the tent in Block C

Yes they need! The cameras present at every concerts are for the screens. They focus on close ups and don't have the whole picture of the stage and crowd on their focus. Hyde Park, Fonda, Havanna and even Olé have been filmed by a whole different film crew directed by Paul Dugdale. I can't imagine they're planning a release of the Berlin show now. This doesn't mean it couldn't be released!

Bridges to Buenos Aires and Live at leeds have been releases where the original content was filmed for the big screens. therefore you don't have many shots from the stage. Of course the amount and quality of the cameras for the screens have improved but still it is a different kind of shooting!

They do film every show. Technically they can release any show on DVD as well. Still, if they PLAN to release a show, they always add cameras. These days additional cameras are small, I did not see any such at Waldbühne this week. However, they had such in Miami/Hollywood last year. Also, there were no signs saying you had to approve being filmed in Waldbühne, like there was in Miami/Hollywood.

I am not a big fan of watching the Stones on DVD or film. I like the real thing. May be if they do not tour anymore, I will watch the Buenos Aires 95 and 98 shows, may be some others too, like Fonda, but as long as they tour, I want them on stage rather than on a TV screen.

Getting soft with age should be encouraged. Remember StonesTod, he was so over it for ten years but he told me when he finally went back in 2019 it suddenly had to be for more than one show

not really. it's a standard legal information provided for nearly every show these days. The just inform you that you don't have any rights at all and they can do whatever they want with recordings, footage etc. if it happens to be recorded

And it was a different story (e.g. cinema-release). As you said by yourself, also the filmings for the stage-screens would be sufficient for a DVD/BR-release. Like BV, I think as well that they do record every show A/V wise.

People are so used to super exciting movie-like concert films with hundred cameras that they would not release a new concert film from a recent tour only with the screen video. Maybe in a few years as a vault release.

It would be sufficient for a low Budget from the vault release but never for a major Stones Release. They always had professional directors for their home releases. Hamish Hamilton for Austin for example. Of course it is possible to release such a concert but if they really would have planned a release in advance there would have been many small additional cameras in the front and at least two more cranes for shootings of the crowd and the Stage.

Of course they record every show! But Look at the Videos they provide to the Television Stations. This is how a Release would look without a Professional crew

A good example for footage shot with the normal stage cameras is Wild Horses from London ‘18.
