When I go to Vegas I always search for who's playing, have seen numerous acts there and yes a few residencies they are great venue's to see your fav performers... but this sphere looks incredible it will put new life into the strip ! U2 will be epic in there with all that technology.
I'm going with or without you...

Well now we can officially put a fork in them, though really I think that could be said several decades ago. Saw them about 5 years ago, playing the full Joshua Tree album, for very cheap in Buffalo - the only way I would have ever seen them. Glad I can say BTDT, but have never been a fan of Bono's narcissistic ego, or his politics for that matter.
A band that sells out every show on their tours and still creates (and releases) new music is "officially done" because they're going to play a handful of shows during a tour in a structure built for music in Las Vegas?
That's extremely entertaining.
I feel like once a band goes the route of the Vegas residency some sense of credibility is gone. But that's just my own opinion. We whine a lot about the Vegas Stones, but one thing they've never done is a Vegas Residency. Can't really see that happening.
I'm curious as to how many other non-American acts have had residencies there?? I know Celine and Shania come to mind instantly. Adele just rescheduled her shows. Can't come up with any others....
And much like many on here decry that the boys haven't produced a good album since TY, I don't really think U2 have done anything great since Zooropa, which was really just a continuation of Achtung.
Has Billy Joel lost his credibility?
What is your foundation for what determines credibility?
What's your idea of what residency means?
The Vegas tag about the Stones has nothing to do with them (ever) playing Vegas, it's just about the culture of the shows.
There's always gonna be whoever saying whatever about how good something is after TATTOO YOU etc. Critically is one thing, as a fan is completely different.
Same with U2.
It's one thing to love an album as a fan, it's another to say 'But it's their BEST!' when critically it isn't and even that should be admitted or at least acknowledged by that fan (UNDERCOVER is a perfect example).
For me Billy Joel has not lost any cred. Playing the Garden once a month indefinitely was a brilliant idea, and he hasn’t put out anything in roughly 30 years, though I wish he would. It’s different musical tastes is all. I don’t think his art form is any less than that of the Stones and I don’t view him as just an entertainer. I actually think I have more respect for him than the boys because he’s just a regular joe who walks down the street and is happy to talk to people. I used to live right next to his motorcycle museum in Oyster Bay and saw him on the sidewalk more than once. You can’t get anywhere near the boys. Does that give him more Cred? No but he also recognized that there were people who wanted to hear his music though he didn’t want to tour anymore and playing the Garden was an easy compromise for him. He can be home relatively early and he still gets to perform and earn more money. And honestly the way he mixes up the set lists is great. You don’t always get all the hits. He lets the fans pick a lot of the songs so sometimes you come away not hearing what you’d hoped to hear. But you get some great deep cuts.
Vegas is a whole other animal to me. It is all about the money and commercialism and to me it’s a sellout. But that’s my opinion. I’ve always thought U2 were overrated hot air anyway so hey whatever. To me this is just a quick and easy cash grab, which I think it is for lost performers who set up there.

When was the last decent album that U2 released...Joshua Tree back in 1987? Might have to go even a bit further back with The Unforgettable Fire from 1984
I saw them live back in 1983 and had their first few albums, and while they were good back then, never understood how they gained such huge popularity.
I guess it's a similar phenomenon with Springsteen and his massive cult of followers...still going strong after all these years...

I was there in the Aragon for the show, and Bono hardly "ruined" IORR. It was good to see him come out and be on stage with the Stones on such a hot night. As a 50+ year fan of the Stones, I can say that it was every bit as good for the Stones that Bono showed up as it was that they let him come on stage.
Despite that the "homers" here will say, U2 is one of the iconic bands of the 80s, 90s, & 00s, and the shows that are coming up in 2023 will be treasured by as many, if not more, U2 fans as the shows that the Stones are playing now.

A lifelong dear friend of mine died this past Sunday.
He loved the Stones, he loved U2. Bowie. The Cult. The Beatles. Doors. REM. Replacements. Liz Phair! Dr Dre. Snoop! Soundgarden. Willie Nelson. Hank Williams. Elvis! Etc on and on. Loads more. He just loved music. I never got the impression he had a number one, he just loved whatever.
He never saw the ridiculousness that people come up with here for, OH POLITICS or whatever. Idiotic drama about whatever because MY OPINION MATTERS.
He loved the aspect that the Stones are old yet keep going no matter how bad they are. But any media madness, like how bad KISS are... and then what Pearl Jam did...
He never judged.
It's tiring. It can be fun to argue, to point things out, hypocrisy, have a hearty giggle (DIRTY WORK lovers), really strange opinions, oblique opinions, classic opinions - whatever.
I know for me to be involved here, just like anyone else, it includes me to click to make this place, iorr.org appear... but goddamn.
I dunno.
Does that make sense? I'm just not sure anymore. Being a fan means what?
It actually, realistically, means nothing. No one alters a meal because of..., right?

And Prince, the Scorpions, Lionel Richie, Kiss (will do one soon). It's by far not just a thing that has beens do. People should change their outdated views on Las Vegas residencies.

Bullshit. Achtung Baby is great. Pop is not 2 bad. All that you can't leave behind is great. How to dismantle an atomic bomb is great. No line on the horizont is for the most part great. So really, I reject that TUF is the last "decent" album.
