Depends where you are. In the UK and Europe, Oasis were huge around 1995-98 and far bigger than all of those other acts you mention.
Of course you’re right about the regional issue. And, most of those I listed peaked by 1996. I know it can be considered a matter of taste, but it’s almost undeniable that Thom Yorke, Maynard James Keenan, and Chris Cornell (and probably Layne Staley) are/were all superior singers/vocalists compared to Liam. He wasn’t keeping rock alive for me. He was ruining it. Haha!

I attended Oasis’ final U.K. show at Wembley Stadium: beer, cocaine and sheer madness. Utterly wasted and mad for it.
Second-hand embarrassment reading that. Reads like satire.
You must lead a very boring life pal, go and listen to some boring radiohead and let us take care of the Rock n Roll stuff.

I worked with a guy who told me his father saw the Doors once, well sort of.
They introduced them “ Ladies and Gentlemen from Los Angeles California-The Doors!!!
The band began playing, Morrison staggered out from backstage kept walking until he went off the end of the stage and crash landed into the orchestra pit. That was it, shows over.
After a good laugh visualizing that I told him” I have to be honest,I would’ve paid $500 dollars to see that.
There is no record of this happening, Your mate lied. Morrison did fall into an orchestra pit once, but the gig continued.

Could be, but I prefer to use the Keith method with this one, never let facts get in the way of a good story.
Even though I never saw Oasis live or owned their music they were an undeniably great band.
When in the hell did everyone start equating talent with being a likable nice guy?
The first 20 years I followed the Stones we just took for granted they were a bunch of arrogant pricks.

completely deniable imo. Those grunge bands you are obviously into all sound the same to me. Thom Yorke sings like a two bit Bono. The rest are all just pretentious whiny un-melodic screamers. Liam has a unique and distinguishable voice that is all his own.

Liam is a better vocalist than Keenan, Yorke and Cornell? There is no way you can seriously believe that. All 3 have voices way more unique, dynamic, and recognizable than Liam’s. You don’t have to be a fan, but their vocal talents dwarf Liam’s. Not even the same ballpark.
“You’re my wonderwaaaaaaaaaaalllllllllllll!!!” Like that’s not whiny and nasally? Yikes. Now listen to this. No way Liam could even approach this…

The Gallagher brothers are dicks and their music does nothing for me. I’ve given them a chance. They’re not for me. Pretentious fluff.

Cornell could do what Liam does but Liam couldn’t sing like Cornell. Like what he does or not, Cornell is a far superior vocalist. Liam can’t even come close to approaching Cornell’s range or power. Do some research, the vast majority is in my camp, not yours.
Please provide proof of Liam’s superiority. Have a feeling I’ll be waiting.

Apples to Oranges.
Even within the grunge genre, you had singers of very different qualities and timbres. Cobain, Cornell, Lanegan, Stayley, Vedder, Weiland and Mark Arm all had very different voices and the bands were of different styles, which gave their music a unique quality. Oasis are the same, Liams voice is a defining quality in the Oasis sound. There’s no point in comparing the voices or the guitar players or the drummers. The music is there and you either like it as a band offering or not.

Fair enough. At least you admit those other guys vary in style. Quietbeatle said they all sound the same to him/her. And thanks for mentioning Mark Arm.

Slide Away is nice. Never said Liam can’t sing. Just saying he didn’t save rock as Quietbeatle claimed. And I offered superior vocalists. That’s all. Oasis is ok, just not for me.

Well Oasis DID save Rock n Roll. Hadn't it been for them I would never have bought Exile On Main St or Chester Burnett's or Little Walter's records. Anyway, Thank you VERY much NashvilleBlues (that name is TOO good for ya as i bet you don't dig George Jones or Waylon either) for letting everyone dig what they want. Just stay with the Stones. Forget midget ginger twats like lonegan or that oxford c**t, thom yorke. Tom with a h? Tom's too good for him or summat? W A N K E R S
NOW LET US ALL GET BACK TO WHAT MIGHT BE THE L A S T Mudda FOOk*in tour of our Boys!!!!!!! Charlie's gone but we gotta Roll With It! Charlie would have loved us all to get along! No more slagging off!!! Alright?????
And Rock n Roll is all about THE STONES and looking cool. If you wanna be clever go listen to Thaichovsky, Mozart, Shostakovitch or Wagner!
Bless You fellow IORRians!!!

Oasis' first two albums had so many great tunes, and just about all of their B-sides were better than most bands A-sides.
This opening track from the (What’s The Story) Morning Glory? is still a thrill...hard to believe it's been nearly 30 years....
Not sure how anyone could completely dismiss them in favor of some of the depressing grunge bands or the oddball weirdos from Radiohead,
but there's no accounting for taste, to each his own, one mans junk is another mans treasure, beauty is in the eye of the beholder, etc, etc., etc.
From my perspective, thank goodness Oasis came on the scene, and put the rock back in to rock and roll.

Never really saW them more than as a Beatles tribute/imitator, much like I see Kenny Chesney as a Jimmy Buffet tribute/imitator.

The mike was replaced twice.
Insults to the soundboard guys.
And bye, bye.
