Rolling Stones live show reels and animations

It strikes me that the Stones have always singled out particular songs for "special treatment" on the screens.

One example of this is Honky Tonk Women which always seems to have some gimmick during the song's performance. These range from vintage pornography (I forget which tour) to manga girl with Gregory the Gorilla to the current animation involving sort of indian dancing. I wonder why this song is singled out?

It's also quite interesting how they use the screens to present a theme for particular songs. For example on PIB they go to B&W video, or the various "filters" they used for different songs during the (ironically named now I think of it) No Filter tour.

Although it's sort of a gimmick, I do find these animations and themes quite fun. Anyone else got any particular memories or likes/dislikes though the years?

I believe it was also during HTW on the licks tour that they had the animated somewhat Asian looking woman riding the tongue as if it was a bull. THAT to me was vulgarity at its finest!!!! smiling bouncing smiley

Urban Jungle had inflatable dogs during Street Fighting Man

I remember Mick attacking them with a large stick/pole

Then to finish it all off, he gets eaten alive by one at the end of the song....

aka as entering the inflatables mouth, disappearing.....

....and re-appearing at the start of Gimme Shelter !!

Haha. Youtube put an age filter on the 2003 HTW video.
Wonder why I can't find any HTW video's from the Voodoo Lounge tour?

Just as long as the guitar plays, let it steal your heart away

I think you need to look at adult sites for that, not youtube!

Play with Fire was played along with some stunning visuals in 2017. Exactly once.

Really?

People are upset about the inflatables and animation they used on Steel Wheels/Urban Jungle and Licks tours….from a band that had an inflatable penis emerge from the center of the stage in 1975. Lol yeah.

the shoot 'em dead, brainbell jangler!

I don't think anyone is upset. Just reminiscing our favorites.

Nowadays, I prefer them to play as "bare" as possible. No expensive/ distracting gimmicks. Just the band on stage and a few screens.

Looking back, the one thing I really liked was "The Bridge" (and the other moving b-stages).
Those inflatables in 1990 came as a total surprise for me and back then I thought they were cool. But I definetely wouldn't want to have them back.

The most interesting gimmicks are the ones that were early abandoned. Elephants, 20 dancing girls for 1 song, Mick shooting up from out of the stage floor, Mick squeezing himself out of a cage. What else we got

I‘m glad that they don‘t do that anymore. As much as I loved to be impressed ever since. The new-found purity keeps the ticket prices low, no? *ironic mode off*.

Cheerio, Fillmore
