I have heard Keith Richards called the Human Riff or the Riff Master, for his ability to invent intriguing and creative musical phrases that are down and dirty and memorable. Examples would be the opening chords of Brown Sugar or Jumping Jack Flash.

If Keith is indeed the Human Riff, what other guitarists would fill the numbers two to five ?

Somebody here knows The Godfathers? The guys of Birth, School, Work, Death? Good guitar riffs alright, I have their albums up to the mid 90s I think.

The Godfathers have had different guitarists over the years but that didn't seem to matter much, riff wise so to speak. Too bad they never made it big, but the singer may have something to do with that (not very good in my opinion).

No one mentioned Richie Blackmore yet? Speed King, Bloodsucker, Burn, Black Night, Into the Fire, Highway Star, Smoke on the Water, Woman From Tokyo, Man on the Silver Mountain is a pretty damn good list of riffs.
