Based on the Wembley Stadium show, I think Dave Grohl used the Tribute gig to trial several possible short-list drummers, to continue the Foo Fighters with.

Cheers,
SonicD

Possibly, but what makes you say this? Obviously they needed to have drummers perform for the tribute...

Of course, but I think as obvious as that is, it is also obvious that if you have a bunch of drummers perform with you at a gig, not just rehearsals, you can feel out how they interact with the band, what the audience will accept, and then if and when you do plug in another drummer it feels less jarring because everyone has already seen them do it in some capacity. I think its gonna be Rufus Taylor.

As for Nirvana material, they are SUPER guarded about doing that and exploiting it. While it would work here obviously and they were all present, they might have thought it would overshadow the rest of the event, it might legit be too hard for any or all of them, or they just wanted to do something different. Might be too obvious so they'd have more fun playing with Soundgarden. I was expecting it but also they've done it before, I don't feel we were cheated or misled.

Maybe in 20 years, obviously if all are still around, that some kind of Nirvana bit could possibly be done. But, jokes aside, nahhhhh. Way too big.

I think Rufus Taylor is the obvious choice if they choose to continue. He nailed it and if he is super loyal to his band The Darkness, they can bring them on tour as warm up!

I think there will be a generational consideration, Rufus despite his Talent is 20yrs younger than the Foo's, I think Josh Freese

I was wondering if Grohl might just retire the band's name and move forward, sounds they'll soldier on with someone new.

Great live band, I hope they keep going.

They keep going. Travis Barker would be a good choice to replace drums.

Playing here in Tennessee! I guess they think they’ll have a drummer ready by May.

So could the Baltimore announcement coming up on Thursday be Foo as well?

Either way, simply great to see they are going back out there.

The music never dies.

Maybe it's Ringo, since the Stones snubbed him.

They are one band I've never really been able to get into. Really dug the debut album, and maybe 2 songs? thereafter. Grohl was a great drummer in Nirvana, and I loved his song, Marigold. But for me, I've never felt that FF's song stood out really from what else was out there. Nothing against anyone who does enjoy them - I know they have a massive following. I'm just not one of them.

The Foo Fighters drummer dilemma: who will replace Taylor Hawkins?

Dave Grohl and co are about to hit the road without their late, beloved drummer and no replacement confirmed. What's the hold-up?

I feel its obvious why they aren't saying anything. They don't need the drummer announced to sell tickets, and announcing it now means it'll be endless articles about why that person probably isn't right for the gig. They are very smart to not announce anything, we'll know at the first show, and that way the articles can be about how good the guy was filling in instead of endless speculation of how he'll be before he even plays a note. Dave Grohl knows what he's doing and he's lucky enough to be at a level where he can exercise this amount of power.

Unless you’ve seen them live, reserve judgment.

Actually I tend to agree about the boringness. I like a couple of songs, but not enough to ever make me want to go see them live, and really isn't that how one forms an opinion about whether or not to go see someone live, is by the studio output?? For me, I think they have about 3 good songs. They all sound the same and don't really offer anything unique sounding - they sound like every other modern rock band. No solo's, short 3 minute radio-friendly bits.

Grohl's a fantastic drummer. Maybe he can slide back behind the kit and they just find a new guitar player.

I saw them once (prior to Taylor Hawkins Tribute). In 1995, they were on a 3 band bill with Mike Watt and Hovercraft. I think I would rank them third out of the bands who played that night.

Just cookie cutter mid 1990's pop music to me.

Fair enough. To each, his own. I think they're easily one of the best live bands out there (with Pearl Jam, TOOL...).

Seeing Foo Fighters in 1995 is very different than seeing them at any point post 2006 as well. From 2007-2015 they were playing some dynamic live shows with a catalogue that really was big enough to warrant a great show.
