I am surprised the Stones didn’t organize something like this for Charlie!
A really missed opportunity and Charlie deserved something like this

Maybe Charlie's family wanted something smaller (the event at Ronnie Scott's in December)?

Was just about to say the same thing myself. Charlie died at a ripe old age and liked to keep himself to himself, generally.

Taylor was gone too soon and was much, much more gregarious.

By the way, that's a 50-song setlist.

Woah! That's some show, seemingly!

Does anyone know the duration? Must've been several hours at least!

All very appropriate and fitting for the late, Taylor Hawkins!

It was about 6 hours, maybe a little less. I know someone who went & was quite impressed by the show.

They started at 4:30 PM UK and ended just before 10:30 PM (curfew). Almost 6 hours.

I was there, this is correct. Great evening!

It was special to see Brian May and Geddy Lee pay tribute to Taylor Hawkins while also paying tribute to there own bandmate.

To me it felt like the importance of family was a theme to the gig. Violet and Dave Grohl performing together, Josh Homme's son running on for a hug, Rufus and Roger Taylor performing together, Wolfgang Van Halen playing Van Halen songs for the first time since Eddie passed and Shane Hawkins sitting in for his father.

They toured and honored him.

Plus... a different generation, which means a different way of handling it.

Great tribute to Taylor. Josh Homme had some allegations of child abuse from his ex Brody Dalle. His son hugging him was interesting, considering. Love Kyuss, QOTSA and Them Crooked Vultures. Hoping the allegations aren't true, obviously.

I wonder what Dave will do next. Have a feeling this kickstarted his desire to be in a band again.

I hope so. Not to take away from anyone else but that's two he's now been dealt.

No idea how much identity the Foo Fighters had with Hawkins in regard to existence... it seems, in one aspect, to carry on would be with honor.

But if that's the end of the band, in name, and he does something else, great.

He probably felt the power of it all with continuing. He has fantastic others to look to in regard of continuing.

I think the Foo’s will continue. I agree with GasLightStreet regarding ‘honour’ I suppose we’ll see what the future holds.

Ya, Waters was great but once was enough for me. I don't think the show is going to change. Maybe when he hits Europe. I'm waiting for Crowded House, too.

Based on the Wembley Stadium show, I think Dave Grohl used the Tribute gig to trial several possible short-list drummers, to continue the Foo Fighters with.

Cheers,

Another review including performance videos and the full setlist:

Strange that no Nirvana material was performed, with Dave Grohl, Krist Novoselic, and Pat Smear all present.

Possibly, but what makes you say this? Obviously they needed to have drummers perform for the tribute...

Of course, but I think as obvious as that is, it is also obvious that if you have a bunch of drummers perform with you at a gig, not just rehearsals, you can feel out how they interact with the band, what the audience will accept, and then if and when you do plug in another drummer it feels less jarring because everyone has already seen them do it in some capacity. I think its gonna be Rufus Taylor.

As for Nirvana material, they are SUPER guarded about doing that and exploiting it. While it would work here obviously and they were all present, they might have thought it would overshadow the rest of the event, it might legit be too hard for any or all of them, or they just wanted to do something different. Might be too obvious so they'd have more fun playing with Soundgarden. I was expecting it but also they've done it before, I don't feel we were cheated or misled.

I think Rufus Taylor is the obvious choice if they choose to continue. He nailed it and if he is super loyal to his band The Darkness, they can bring them on tour as warm up!
