From the Vids I’ve heard Steve and Daryl are sounding tight, they have a little thing going between them and it sounds great.

As for Keef, Mick & Ronnie (happy birthday) they continue to defy age. It’s just unbelievable what they’re doing for a whole show at their ages. Micks voice was flawless from what I heard and still has power. It’s truly inspirational seeing them still play music and deliver live.

In these troubled times, let's be glad that the Stones are still playing and making so many people happy.

During “Slipping Away” there are two guys with leaf blowers onstage. WTF.

I used to have a neighbour that would be out on Sunday mornings at 8:00 AM with his leaf blower.

I should have done a Keith and said to him - “Slip Away pal!”

Great show tonight.

What happened is, that during the band introductions there was a huge blast of confetti for Ronnie aboud midway the catwalk. Then we sang happy birthday to him.

During Happy and Slipping Away the crew was removing the confetti of the catwalk with leafblowers. During Slipping Away they came a little close to Keith, Keith stopped singing to tell the crew guys to movea, then when he came back to his mic. The band started playing the nextpart without Keith and Keith followed be saying ''you bastards''

Keith’s playing and singing were fantastic… what a gig… Only downside were the pissheads barging people out of the way in Pista A thinking they could get to the front of the stage but apart from that, it was a brilliant night… I was concerned about how the stage would look but it turned out to be great..

Really heartening to see the band back again and sounding pretty good (I'm underselling them, hah-hah!),,,please keep at that level, guys!

Jaggz is such a great frontman, always working the crowd, never letting-up...really hope he feels the love for 'Out Of Time'.

It's missing Mick's guitar ! I wonder why he's not playing his part anymore, starting in 1989 he seemed to "take pride" in playing the guitar on stage.

I think his words to the cleaners were a bit stronger than "slip away"

Seems to me Steve Jordan has reinvigorated the band in a way. A tad faster tempo and more energy on some songs. The setlist? The first 8 songs looks like a marvellous setlist.
From then on it's the usual suspects. Considering their age the band sounds very good.

What can a poor 78-year-old knight of the realm do, except sing in a rock’n’roll band? As Mick Jagger electrified a stadium on the scrubby outskirts of Madrid by launching the Rolling Stones’s European tour with Street Fighting Man, you realised: this is the band that never stopped. They never split. Not for them an avatar concert like the not-really reunited Abba. They survived the death of their beloved drummer Charlie Watts last year and here they were, taking their massive show on the road for a sixtieth anniversary bash before 70,000 excited Spaniards. The remarkable thing was, beyond the inevitable ravages of age, how little had changed.

One can only assume that snake-hipped Jagger remembered the keep-fit tips his PE teacher dad taught him as he wiggled his bum, did his stretched arms dance and generally sent the crowd wild. The rather more louche Keith Richards and eternally grateful Ronnie Wood (still the new boy even as he celebrated his 75th birthday on stage) played like they were jamming in an unusually good bar band. It was a triumph of humanity, always sounding like it was about to fall apart but somehow holding it together.

The big change was the loss of Watts, honoured at the start of the show. His jazz-trained playing behind the beat gave the Stones their laid back swing and his replacement Steve Jordan was a more solid, propulsive drummer, but he displayed an understanding of what Jagger & co need: a rhythm that moves with them, rather than dictates where they have to go.

With the exception of the lockdown anthem Living in a Ghost Town — a surprise for the Stones, not noted for their social commentary, and the Steel Wheels album track Sad Sad Sad — this was a set of well worn favourites.

The mid 1960s groovers 19th Nervous Breakdown and Out Of Time (a highlight) were raucous reminders of their innocent youth, You Can’t Always Get What You Want, featuring Jagger on acoustic guitar, sounded celestial after all these years, and Tumbling Dice captured everything great about the Stones: the swagger, the excitement, the bluesy decadence.

And the danger that always lurked around the edges was there, even in a stadium filled with merchandise-clad superfans. The serial killer anthem Midnight Rambler still sounded menacing after all these years; Honky Tonk Women and Miss You, the latter featuring a fantastic solo from Darryl Jones, as sleazy as they did back in the 1970s.

The concert ended where it all began, really: with Satisfaction. Until that moment Jagger practised his Spanish and danced along the long ramp going into the crowd, Richards looked casually amused at it all and the Stones were back to remind us why they never left: because nobody else makes rock’n’roll that makes you feel as good as this.

Two formidable British institutions hit considerable milestones this week: Queen Elizabeth II celebrates her Platinum Jubilee, marking 70 years on the British throne, and The Rolling Stones kick off their 60th Anniversary tour; a 14-date jaunt through European stadiums this summer. Both Her Madge and The Stones’ Mick Jagger are undeniable symbols of post-War British power and both are prone to costume changes. Although, only one will wiggle its hips, blow kisses and peacock around the stage for two-and-a-half hours. Thankfully, it’s the latter.

This is, as Jagger tells the Wanda Metropolitano Stadium crowd in Spanish, a very special night. It marks the start of a new ‘Sixty’ tour’, guitarist Ronnie Wood’s 75th birthday, and the first European show they’ve ever played without their late drummer, Charlie Watts. The iconic sticksman passed in August 2021, and while their returning shows without him last winter – featuring replacement Steve Jordan – showed a band still processing the loss of their secret weapon and great pal, ‘Sixty’ celebrates his life and everyone who remains in the band. The show opens with a video tribute to Watts, and as Jagger recently said: “I don’t really expect him to be there any more if I turn round during a show”. The Stones are clearly ready to look forward, but never forget the past.

Madrid is a perfect place to start the new era. Here, they’re treated like infallible rock’n’roll gods, welcomed on stage by home-made banners that combine the national flags of Spain, Argentina and Uruguay with the infamous tongue-logo. If you’re not wearing a piece of new merchandise (or knock-off), you’re the odd one out. You’d better be prepared for when the band bring these vibes to Liverpool’s Anfield Stadium and BST Hyde Park in London for their first UK shows in nearly four years.

For those who’ve seen The Stones live before, little here was genuinely new: ‘Street Fighting Man’ and ‘19th Nervous Breakdown’ still offer a one-two punch, and the groovy ‘Honky Tonk Woman’ and ‘Miss You’ still have serious slink, but they remain thrilling nonetheless. When they do throw in a curveball, like playing 1966’s ‘Out Of Time’ live for the first time ever, it’s breathtaking to find elements of the band’s legacy that feel untouched. The great survivors still have many tricks up their sleeves.

Jagger’s crowd work is as spectacular as ever; wriggling, pointing, clapping and blowing kisses as he flirts with every corner of this gigantic football stadium – all the while sprinting up and down a 100 metre walkway. The comparisons to Harry Styles seem apt – though Mick disputes it – and it appears that he seems to give extra effort tonight to up the playful rivalry: ‘Beast Of Burden’ features some unnecessary, thoroughly entertaining interpretive dancing side of stage from Jagger. Even when Keith Richards takes the lead on ‘Happy’ and ‘Slipping Away’, he seems genuinely touched at the crowd’s response, flashing that dazzling smile of pearly whites.

And six decades in, there’s nary a thrill on earth like the final 30 minutes of a Stones gig: who else could lead a set-closing run-in with the likes of ‘Start Me Up’, ‘Paint It Black’, ‘Sympathy For The Devil’ and ‘Jumping Jack Flash’ and complete it so effortlessly? Just as the show begins to feel too familiar again, they’re always ready to keep themselves and fans on their toes. During ‘Gimme Shelter’, the anti-war song features a tribute to Ukraine, with Jagger and backing vocalist Sasha Allen trading lines as devastating images of bombed-out buildings play on screen.

The band’s return to Europe for their first shows post-COVID is undoubtedly a special one, and the focused mission of the tour – celebrating the band’s legacy, but trying to keep it fresh – brings extra gravitas to the evening. At the rate and intensity they’re going at, there’s little stopping them from making a crack at their own Platinum Jubilee in the years to come.

It was a great show! Keith playing really focus, the band sounding tight and the start was awesome with SFM, 19th, SSS, Tumbling dice, Out of time and BoB. Far better than last time in Barcelona 2017.

Rolling Stones kick off 60th anniversary European tour in Madrid

MADRID, June 1 (Reuters) - The Rolling Stones rocked Madrid on Wednesday with gusto, and a bit of nostalgia for their late drummer Charlie Watts, as they kicked off a European tour marking their 60th anniversary as a band.

Some 53,000 fans at the Wanda Metropolitano stadium roared with excitement as they welcomed to the stage the original band members Mick Jagger, 78, and guitarists Keith Richards, 78, and Ronnie Wood, who turned 75 on Wednesday.

They have been joined by drummer Steve Jordan for the tour, titled SIXTY. Watts, who joined the band in 1963, died last year aged 80.

"Hola Madrid!" shouted the band's wiry frontman Jagger to even louder cheering after the band opened the show with “Street Fighting Man” and Jagger launched into his signature strut dance moves.

Right before the first song, videos of Watts where displayed in big screens on the stage and the band gave an emotional tribute to their late friend.

“This is our first European tour without Charlie, we miss him a lot,” said Jagger in Spanish right before playing “Sad, Sad, Sad” to a moved crowd.

"The band dedicated the show to him," show designer Patrick Woodroffe, who has worked with the Stones for four decades, told Reuters. "Some time has gone past and we miss him all the time, we laugh about him, we talk about him a lot and this is a way to celebrate his life rather than to mourn it."

After 17 songs, The Rolling Stones left the stage just to return in response to a big round of applause by the Madrid crowd.

The band played “Gimme Shelter” as the Ukrainian flag and footage of destroyed Ukrainian cities where displayed on the monitors as a statement against war.

After the two-hour show beaming fans clad in Rolling Stones t-shirts and draped in flags with the trademark lips and tongue logo left the venue chanting “Satisfaction”.

“It was like they are 30 years younger again,” said Javier Romero.

During the 14-show tour the British band will play stadiums and arenas in 10 countries, including their homeland.

"On their 50th (tour) in 2012 we said this might be the last we’ve seen them and we have seen them around Europe many times since then, and in England,” said 60-year-old Paul, a fan who came from Britain for the gig.

The Stones will next play in Munich on Sunday and later perform in Liverpool, Amsterdam, Bern, Milan, London, Brussels, Vienna, Paris and Stockholm.

According to Woodroffe, the Stones have no plans to stop rolling and refuse to call any tour their last one.

"I can tell you categorically that The Rolling Stones will never do a farewell tour... I think everybody in the world is asking 'is this the end of The Rolling Stones?'

"Every time they go on tour again and the only people who don't question it is The Rolling Stones themselves."

Great show! Thanks to everyone streaming and posting. I was able to catch quite a bit of the show live and it was exciting.

"Out OF Time" = awesome. Keith looked like he was enjoying the crowd's response.

The stage is beautiful, every doubt i had before dissapeared as soon as i entered the stadium. It's massive and IMO better than 2014-16 stage.

OUT OF TIME was the highlight, no discussion.
Hope they continue playing it and add Mother's little helper sin "sad sad sad slot".

Next stop for me: Amsterdam!

The band is incredible, I think Steve Jordan is giving them a bit more of rock. Guitars are heavier and the band sounds solid. A few mistakes, but probably because the boys age.

I was quite disappointed with the European public. It was my first show in Europe and the audience seemed to be watching a movie instead of a rock and roll show.

They got annoyed if you jumped or shouted. They were bothered by the flags and stood still all the concert.

The show in the pit was given by the Argentinians and Uruguayans. They may be different ways of experiencing music and passion, but come on! It's a rock and roll show! A bit of emotion and madness.
