Collecting official vinyl live releases: completing the list
Posted by: jackflash27 ()
Date: May 31, 2022 13:20

As a vinyl collector, I'm trying to figure out what official live album releases are available / have been put out in the past. I count full concerts and regular live albums (like Ya-ya's and Flashpoint). With the help of Discogs / wikipedia I came to the following list. There are some releases which could lead to debate. For instance:
- is 'on air' a live album?
- Is Checkerboard Lounge an official Rolling Stones release?
- Flashpoint includes also 2 studio tracks, but I think we all agree that it's mostly a live album.
- Albums with live bonus tracks (like Sticky fingers Deluxe with some tracks from the Roundhouse gig). There shouldn't be too many of those though.

Don't be too picky on the years I added. It's just to put some chronological order to it.

Only official releases and only vinyl albums.
Looking forward to your comments and corrections. If I missed a release, please add the discogs link of that release.

On air 1963-1965 ('live' in the studio)
Got Live if you want it 1964-1966
Rock 'n roll Circus 1968

Ladies and Gentlemen soundtrack 1972 (very rare I think) IT'S A BOOTLEG - NO VINYL

Not according to discogs: [www.discogs.com]

Seems an official Eagelrock release.

I have one. I believe it's a bootleg (99 percent sure it's a bootleg).
You are missing the original Stripped from you list, I think. And I think also the 1982 Wembley show that was released in the Tattoo You box.

Don't forget Live In England '65 (part of Charlie Is My Darling).

L&G is 10000% legit. Perhaps you bought a bootleg copy but it has since been released officially much like Brussels. And yes I would add Stripped, Shine A Light, No Security. Not sure any of those saw a vinyl release tho.

On vinyl? Don't think so. The cd is an official release, though.

As Dandy said, L&G is official on CD and DVD.
No Security is on vinyl. Shine A Light is not.

Every VINYL version has "Eagle Rock Entertainement". Find and show us one correctly spelled E-n-t-e-r-t-a-i-n-m-e-n-t.

Misspelled on the labels (under the ER-logo) - [www.Catawiki.com] , [www.RootsVinylGuide.com] , [iorr.org] .

My copy has a white label promo sticker, but I still reckon it's a bootleg.
I'd be delighted to be wrong, though, because then I'd have something rare.

It's rare indeed (and the sticker confirms the 111 copies). It also mentions the 'promotional' purpose. Because it's released by Eaglerock, I would still say it's official.

Charlie Is My Darling is official, released in the deluxe box on 10-inch vinyl.

I had meant the original NS album released back in the 90's with the biker couple on the cover, but like I said, I don't think it ever saw a vinyl release, and since it's so long out of print on CD, I can't imagine it'll ever get a proper vinyl re-releasing. Shine A Light would make for a cool vinyl LP though I think!!

From a 'trying-to-be-complete' point of view: yes. But I think It's fair to consider this one as a live album. By the way: Flashpoint is a bit of the opposite. All live tracks, except two. This is where the area becomes 'grey' winking smiley

Pretty sure it's a bootleg, sort of like the vinyl "Live Licks". It was released as a boxed set of course, and I looked it up and it also got a later release as a standalone double CD in 2017. Never heard of a vinyl release...discogs is all user-submitted and constant changes so this may not have been reported yet.

Bootleg - not bootleg discussion is very interesting. But did you check the print on the wax and compare it to known versions? Matrix codes, ifpi etc.? I thought this is the easiest way to determine the origin of the LP or CD.

The reason I think it's official is that it is issued by Eagle Rock, a known label which brings a lot of Stones live stuff to the market. On the pictures in the catawiki link, the label is clearly printed on the back cover and vinyl labels. Also, in my experience, Discogs does a pretty good job in shifting between official and bootleg releases. This one is archived as an official release.

Well getting more interesting. The 111 seems to be for the red wax, official or bootleg. So the black vinyl is a promotional release only, and if so how many copies?

I guess if it's not actually a public release, can it be considered an official release? Sort of like the BTMMR single, yes there are promo copies of it but it's not considered an 'official' single.

NS with the biker couples was a official vinyl release. I bought it when it was released on vinyl. Only played it ones. Its not my favorite, mainly because of the terrible cover.
