So they're gonna fake looking like back then... and sounding - WTF. ABBA fans are suckers, huh. Wow.

Good for them. All of them.

What a soulless event! This is not music, its not original, its just another way of cashing in on memories from a generation who can't let go. Shameless and stupid from organizers and spectators as well.

To me it's interesting less in terms of a concert, more in the way of these immersive movie experiences where you get to smell stuff or even may get wet. Interesting to see what's technologically possible in the field of industrial lights and magic

Anyone heard anything from the rehearsals?

It. Is. Not. A. Hologram.

Yep, the Abbatars are simply a 3D computer animation (similar to a Pixar movie), the (dance-) moves were digitally transferred by motion-capture from the original ABBA members and it's displayed on a 65-million-pixel flat screen - [www.Billboard.com] , [Metro.co.uk] , [www.HuffingtonPost.co.uk] .

So, is there an orchestra performing live during the performance? Also, are the vocals merely lifted from the record?

They should use live tracks rather than the original recording I think.

Watched the YouTube clip. I have to say this is the weirdest thing I have ever seen.

Before watching the Behind The Scenes news footage on YouTube, I was not sure how this worked.

So it turns out it is playback with some backing singers and musicians. I would be curious to see the show in person but would not pay a dime for a ticket. This pure nostalgia, not there is anything wrong with that. This is something that could work fine in a museum.

I think it’s the original studio vocals, with some live-vocal accompaniment and an orchestra performing in real-time. Other wise, as clever as the avatars are, what’s the point?

This is the video that shows there is a 10 piece band playing live on stage every night.

Here's the video of Dancing Queen to fit on this post.

Here's a short snippet of Mama Mia.

That's hilarious coming from a Rolling Stones fan.

At least Abba could finish their new album.

ABBA fans are suckers, huh. Wow.

If Stones fans get three rare songs in a show, we all squeal "omg, greatest set list ever" and ignore that the rest of the show has been virtually the same since 1989. Who's the sucker?

No different than having a museum exhibition, then.

It actually IS original.

Relax. Its not as if anyone paid money expecting to see the real thing and came out feeling cheated.

I feel like basically the only thing you need here is to engineer a light show with an ongoing optical illusion of depth for the viewers brain to abandon the notion of watching a screen and voila you have pulled it off

Here's a different approach of a Virtual Concert - live performed on 31-Dec-2020 (New Year's Eve) by electronic music pioneer Jean-Michel Jarre . It was streamed in 2D on YouTube but you could also attend the live-concert in 3D via an VR-Headset (e.g. Oculus).

[www.YouTube.com] , [JeanMichelJarre.com]

Jarre performed live on his synthesizers in a studio in Paris while his moves were real-time transferred to an avatar inside the virtually rebuilt Notre Dame cathedral. This VR-concert was released by Sony Music in September 2021 on BluRay, CD and LP. It's probably the first VR-concert whose audio has been released on Vinyl.

Absolutely true, cashing in is no unknown motive. I just dont belong to that generation, and a Musical or a something like that Abba BS would certainly be a no go in my Stones fandom.

I knew there would be plenty of Stones fans moaning and groaning about the Abba Voyage show being rubbish and wouldn't pay money to watch and listen to it.

It's entertainment and a night out for as little as £44.50p for two seats if you book well in advance towards the end of 2022 or January 2023 onwards.
Also seems to be easier to book 2 or more seats than one seat.

If you don't like Abba, just don't go. Easy as that.

I for one will definitely see this show at sometime this year for sure. thumbs up

"The show could run for five years..."

I can see the Stones doing this eventually...

I can clearly see it: six part show, the Stones in their 20s, 30, 40, 50, 60s and 70s (and for the encore in their 80s, maybe ...)

If doing it true Stones style, at least once per show the Keith-o-tar should play a different song than the backing band ... or botch the intro to SMU ... we would want some real Stones concert feeling, no? grinning smiley

PS: Kraftwerk did it 3D decades ago ...

This is so freaking cringe. Universal blocked the video...just because it's the same as the original recording.

Let's face it, no surprise universal have got the youtube etc. clips deleted, since the first ones appeared.

You gotta see the show or else you won't catch it anywhere else on the net.

Let's face it £44.50p for two tickets in a fairly small venue, is a pretty good night for great music, if you book well in advance.

If you wanna see it in the equivalent of The Pit, you're gonna pay a whole lot more.

Whatever you go for is a good deal in my opinion. smileys with beer

The next (il)logical step after bands touring with different lead singers (Skynyrd, Journey, Foreigner, etc.) or to pre-recorded tapes (KISS, Def Leppard, pretty much all of the Britney/Christina crowd, etc).

It may be good clean fun, and a great night out, but it ain't the real deal.

Yes, I am aware that Brian, Bill, and Charlie are not touring this summer. sad smiley
