In my humble opinion the Tourbook '72 is more than you may expect. It's one of a kind. Have searched for anybody who could tell something about what happened to them when the Stones came to town, in 1972. All the recordings have been compared and reviewed. Also info about the Unreleased live album is included. My hope is that the Stones will use my information for a future VR release of the whole tour.

This totally true, the book is a fantastic adventure following the complete tour of 1972 and more. Deep respect for all the time and research that went into this bible of that tour. This work deserves a great release and the writer a great compliment ! Wish there were books like this about every tour

As a '72 tour veteran I still have hope that somebody with the resources to will work with Erwin and turn his labor of love into the basis for a formally published book. A lot of licensing for copyrighted content will need to be obtained, but enjoyment of this prodigious body of work should not be limited to a few hundred of us.

Thank you all for responding so kind. The responses have been overwhelming. I could write a book about it.

The chances for an official release are slim. Publishers will skip the bootleg section and most of the pictures. Then my purpose is lost. A thorough research in which the Stones find data about each show. The music, the pictures, the lore. You name it. Soon the test prints are no longer available.

My hope is/was leaning on our heroes themselves.
I have sent books to Bill and MT. Never received feedback.
Went to the Stones headoffice in Amsterdam by foot. It's 15 minutes walk from our company's office, downtown. Dressed up in suit with STP tie. Rang the bell, told I had a delivery. The buzz opened the door. Tried to find my way in the building. No signs from any of the multiple companies where, on which floor they were located. Asked someone where to find Promotone. She gave directions. Couldn't use the stairs had to use the elevator. When the door opened I knew I was on the right spot. A mancave like office. Stones Memorabilia everywhere. A big room with two girls working in a far corner. One of them had answered the door. I asked for Jan, the CEO. They directed me to a semi dark room in which Jan was sitting behind an old skool office desk.
I walked towards him. It was early June 2022. So I didn't put my right hand forward to shake, but introduced myself and asked few minutes of his time.
He looked startled to me and asked if I had an appointment. I said no, but I'm here to give you three books. One for you. One for Keith. And one for Mick.
There's great opportunities for the Stones to finally do this 72 tour right. I did this project in order to help you guys to show what the 72 tour was about. As recent interviews from the band on 1972 questions didn't give much hope.
He spoke a soft, restrained thank you and asked the girls to show me the way out.
Never heard anything back from him.
Or the others.

That's us diehard Stones fans faith. Ignored about our hunger for the past.
And still we love them very much.

As I read your account of the attempted contact, I was hoping it would at least end with a friendly response from the "bosses"... Nothing.
Shame.

Since I've had the book, I don't think a week has gone by that I haven't opened its pages for a quick scan: I always end up reading for an hour or more and listening to some bootleg from the tour.

In CS Blues , there are snippets of songs from the 1972 tour.Robert Frank must have filmed the entire performances of these songs.Do you know whatever happened to this film?

Thx for sharing the story of visiting their office, Erwin! Reminded me of trying to peddle my screenplays without having an agent (one of which I even tried to get to Mick), often felt foolish doing so, but your story made me feel a bit better

Erwin, I still think that if you could find an avenue to get it into Thomas Tull's hands, there'd be a decent chance he'd be interested in making a project out of it. I doubt there's a billionaire in the world more passionate about the Stones than him, and if he found it interesting as a project he wouldn't care about expense, he'd just put people on it and order it done.

Watch his documentary It Might Get Loud. Watch the special features (on the bluray), they have more of Tull in them than in the documentary itself. He says he got his first choices of guitarists from each era in Jimmie Page, Edge, and Jack White. Producers always say "we got our first choices" even when they don't, and I don't believe Tull on 1/3 of that claim. Jimmie's incredible yes but I cannot believe the project didn't get a "pass" from Keith first.

He kept after the Stones anyway.

We all expect the Stones to tour again. There are going to be opening bands again...

CS Blues might be still under a Stones ban. There's other threads on iorr who said it all.
Other Robert Frank Snippets (than those from CS Blues) have been used in the Crossfire Hurricane docu. Personally I judge that Frank and Danny didn't film entire performances. Just snippets.

Last time around I saw Ronnie smoking on the balcony of the Amstel Hotel. I shouted his name and we waved. Ofcourse I didn't have a copy of the manuscript with me...

Just adding my voice to the chorus. This book is fantastic, an indispensable resource and an entertaining read. Totally transports me back to the summer that I discovered the Stones as an 11-year-old kid who'd basically wandered into a strip club and couldn't un-see nor un-hear what I experienced. So long, Three Dog Night!

Hello everyone. Does anyone recall another book (or website) about the 72 tour that was written by a gentleman who's name escapes me, but he was a professor or librarian at San Diego State? I remember that it was a date by date format and he was really focused on Keith's shirts as this was his method for matching up un-labelled pictures to the correct show date/city (or am I mis-remebering and this is Erwin's method?). I communicated with him 5-6 years ago on Facebook, but can't find him now. Thanks in advance.
