This bombed spectacularly, did it not? Grossing a mere 1.6 million in its first weekend? If you want to see it in a theater, you'd better hurry.

Well, folks don’t go to the cinema in their droves anymore. I have many fond childhood and teenage memories of attending packed viewings: Robin Hood Prince of Thieves, Jurassic Park, Independence Day, Titanic, etc. Those days are gone. Man, I miss the 90’s!

The concept is already done, 40 years ago. And the market has changed; these days rock bands do not top the charts.
Sure, there is still much to poke fun of but maybe it takes more than that to draw 55 plus seniors to the cinemas?

It depends on the movie. The superhero shite aimed at teenagers still packs them in. Demon Slayer grossed 70 million here in the states last weekend, compared to less than 2 million for Spinal Tap.

While I don't disagree with most of it, I feel its worthwhile to point out that a large amount of groups that still feel stadiums are aging rockers. So you can't say there's no audience for it, there's still plenty. I agree that I don't think they'd go to the movies, but I think that's more to do with streaming and things being made easier for old people to not leave their homes for THAT form of entertainment vs. live shows.

Movies on a grand scale are just not doing what they ever used to. The only things that make money are the superhero movies, and they largely suck. I think actually most agree with that, they are completely generic and rather boring at this point. Why people still go? I don't know, I guess its just the only thing worth seeing on a big screen. Spinal Tap 2 was not good, but I do imagine it would do better if the movie industry did better.

my tiny local theatre that only shows one movie three times a week does pretty well

went to see the new naked gun there a few weeks ago and the place was packed

tickets nine dollars

huge bag of popcorn with lots of butter for five dollars

plus they pick the movies that they show based on what the community wants to actually see

sadly that's a lotta crappy superhero films but i put in my suggestion for spinal tap 2

well see what happens i'd love to see it there even if it is a bad movie

Fair enough, tatters. Regarding the ‘superhero shite’ it’s adults, too. Grown arsed men, enjoying Captain America and Spider-Man. It’s regressive and babyish. Never understood it!

oh come on there just nerds (and so are we just for the stones)

they are stupid movies but even i like the deadpool films, hugh jackman's wolverine, the joker and the tim burton batman films

the rest to me are hot garbage and even the ones i like aren't exactly gonna be mistaken for kurosawa films

but that's all the movie industries putting out now (or some other terrible cgi garbage or mindless cliche filled action films) and some peope just like going to the movies

spinal tap 2 may indeed be terrible but at least it's not another damn superhero movie

the industries moved past the western and musical fads and they've gotta move past this eventually right?

I agree with you there, Al. The infantilisation of culture, as evidenced in various permutations.

Also, ProfessorWolf, your local cinema sounds fantastic - lucky you! Where in the world is it?

the roxy theatre in morton, wa

when i say tiny i mean it

and it's the only theatre in 40 miles of here

couple years ago when they phased out film they had to switch to a digital projector which they had to order from europe and it cost $40000

they paid for it thru a community fundrasier

everyone around here loves this place and they also host plays and musical acts as well
