even the dreaded nasty piece of crap owned by Rupert Murdoch the NY Post had an article on the 5o year celebration of Exile.....still one of the greatest joys is to play that record....what a treat and thank you Stones.

My favorite studio album of the Stones and my pick if I had to be stranded on a desert island. I remember seeing the album in the record bin at my local retail store and I was so captivated with that cover that I had to buy this album. It so funny how Exile's reputation has grown over the years because initial reviews were very mixed. Exile is like a fine wine that gets better over time.

So the Stones own media specialists can’t even get the anniversary date correct? Amateurs.

When the album was released a LA radio station announced that it would play it in full with breaks after each side. I was at a laundromat just east of the Forum in Inglewood and got some dirty looks from a woman who thought I was not moving my laundry along fast enough because I was sitting in my car until a side finished before dashing in and tending to my clothes. A few weeks later I saw the band at the Forum and 6 months later again at the Forum for the Nic Ben Con. Nice to have the band around so often at the time. It was an impossible album to digest in one listen on a little radio speaker in a VW Bug. But I gladly gave it a try.

great (and long) piece here on exile by bob lefsetz:

he gets the release date wrong too (though corrected it in his next post)

but gets so much else right about what makes EOMS the pinnacle of a career not short on dizzying heights
Rocks Off is fantastic. Do not know what he is saying

well if they do nothing else to celebrate the band should book a club date and do the whole album live

then release the show like sticky fingers

come on mick even the casual fans have to know most the songs on exile

you think there gonna walk out if you play turd on the run?

I would be terribly insulted.

So much to disagree with. So much fun to read, though. Everyone has a different "Exile" experience, and perspective.

Exile on main street, strange street to walk down.
