I just hope they get a chance to work on Satisfaction.

and finally decide to drop it!
I could do without it but at every concert I see how the people around me totally love it. And that's great to see. So since I'm not the only person at the concert I just let the others enjoy it.

Please do not post here about covid unless it is well documented and tour related.

Funny. You really think they are going to play obscure songs.....hmmm...look at setlist(a) since '94. No imagination than to play "safe". Again, buy the bootlegs and save yourself the disappointment of what you were hoping to hear.

Remember this is the opener of a tour. For some strange reason when the Stones open a new tour they add some more obscure numbers.

In 2012/2013 they kicked off the 50 and Counting Tour (and the follow-up tours with different names) with the same setlist structure with some 22/23 song set lists that had quite a few gems.

From 2014 onwards they used the same setlist structure as Hyde Park for pretty much all concerts up until Las Vegas 2016 with 18-20 songs.

In 2017 they kicked off the No Filter tour with 22 songs including Dancing With Mr D, Play With Fire, Under My Thumb, Sympathy as an opener, the new encore section (Gimme Shelter and JJF) and two blues songs.

As the tour progressed they used the same structure with a more stale 18-20 song set.

I don't know what tells them to play more songs at the beginning of a tour and less in the end. I also was in the crowd when they played 18 songs for the first time in the No Filter tour in Dallas in 2021 and thought "yeah, this is the last leg of this tour".
Just look at this:

Anniversary tours etc.

2012: 22 - 23 songs
2013: 21 - 23 songs (except Hyde Park / Glastonbury)
2014: 19 - 20 songs
2015: 18 - 20 songs
2016: 18 - 19 songs (except desert trip)

No Filter

2017: 20 - 22 songs
2018: 19 songs
2019: 19 songs
2021: 17 - 19 songs

So I have some faith in these rehearsals resulting in a new set list, new stage, new art work and a couple more songs for opening night, just as history showed the past few times.

i'd be more in favor of them dropping it as the final song and using it in a shortened form as the opener without keith's more often then not screwed up solo

and replace it with a extended sfm as the closer with ronnie soloing over it

I would totally love that! Satisfaction would be a welcomed opener since they didn't has it since 1998 and still it's an opener everybody knows. And SFM would be a hell of a final song

There was a ”one-off” occasion, in Melbourne 2006, when they opened with Satisfaction.
But I agree with you, it would make a welcome return to the opening slot.

Not Fade Away was a perfect opening number.

I think the great thing about Not Fade Away as an opener was not the song itself but rather how it set the tension for Tumbling Dice to totally smash as a second song.

I would like they take "On With The Show" from Satanic as opener.
Then the 2nd song must be " Living In A Heart Of Love".

Yes, you're right it helped Tumlbin' Dice, but the song also had great tension in itself and also worked as a good intro when the members were introduced one at the time. First we got Charlies great drumming, then Mick who sang the opening words and then Keiths and Ronnies guitars which in a way answer Mick. When opening with Sympathy, a similar effect was also achieved.

Of course it won't be the same now when Charlie is not with us anymore. But they are nevertheless great opening numbers.

the clip was actually filmed at the Ziggo Dome (one can easily recognized what's on the photos from that room, see: [iorr.org])

so there's no need to worry about Jagger

Love(d) SFM as an opener.. worked particularly well in '19 in the US given the unrest of the times I thought.

Like to see something new for the 60th..
Perhaps Chuck Berry's "Around and Around" to get the joint rocking, followed by Satisfaction cool smiley

This! Still recall at my very first Stones concert ever, Helsinki '95, how hypnotic "Dice" sounded like. Not that "Not Fade Away" was not wonderful itself too, it surely was, but it was like a 'foreplay' song, the band hitting the stage, building up the atmosphere and excitment with a not-so-typical song, but then all of that fully exploded in "Dice" - the latter offering the essential Stones groove at its very best. Like a showcase of 'this is what it is'. It could be that that still is my biggest individual Stones live song experience ever - finally realizing how amazing and 'present right now' those classic songs sound like played live by the greatest rock and roll band in the world. It was like losing a virginity.

Actually I just a while ago discovered that the version of "Tumbling Dice" was filmed and released by Finnish television back then (and could be found from their online archives). It was not just my subjective thrill clouding my judgment - it was a hot version indeed.

Thanks, Doxa, I had no idea. I think I found it (or at least some of it, a "Lista" episode including a reportage on the concert) in the YLE Areena archives. [areena.yle.fi]
