Charlie Will Remain in the Picture

I was listening to Stones on Spotify...
The band shot pictured below stays on the screen for all Stones songs of all eras:

I wondered... unlike other former Stones, both alive and not, Charlie remains "in the picture"...
Why only Charlie and not other former Stones?

Maybe it's because ...
Of all past band members, only Charlie died while still an official Rolling Stone.

Brian died shortly after he left the band... his "slot" was replaced by Mick T.
Mick Taylor's "slot" was replaced by Ronnie.
Bill retired... resigned... and was not replaced officially, as Brian and Mick T. both were.
Stu, of course, was never an official member.

That sounds as if they act upon a strategy so consistent as if devised at the very beginning. My take is that it's completely different everytime. This time they're hanging on by a thread and probably dread the idea of being three on an official goup photo

Charlie is (was) one of the main associates in the firm, also in the image of the brand.

And as you said, is the only Rolling Stones member in active died...

Stu was not only an official member (not in the image on the brand and band) was the founder member with Brian.

The other members you're referring to have not been Stones for decades. Bill Wyman, the most recently departed, is 30 years a non-Stone. Half the life of the band.

Charlie was integral through all the eras and has only been gone a matter of months, and may even still appear on a new album should that arise.

What a cold thought that he'd be erased from the band so quickly.

Why only Charlie and not other former Stones?
Because all the other one's either quit (Bill and Mick T.) or were kicked out (Brain).

Why the hell should you include members that quit in your promo images?

Who cares? Bill was in the good part of the band, the artistically productive part. Bill was never replaced with a bass player of equal or better talent. Mick Taylor presided over their best years. He was replaced with an adequate player who stayed true to the Stones' sound. Ian Stewart played with them whenever he damn well felt like it, and added that Johnnie Johnson sound to their earliest songs. And Brian lit the fuse.....then added to their artistic heights before flaming out. They're all part of the Rolling Stones, plus Nicky, Billy, Bobby, even Jack Nitzche.

But they are not part of the Rolling Stones' Greatest Hits conglomerate. So what? It would just be playing the same 18 or so songs over and over and over, making bucket listers happy.

Obviously you was asking that one

Which led me to the quesion why you even think about the others being not included. They quit a long a long time ago, so it's clear that they would not have a picture with them on their Spotify.

Without Charlie, they have simply become the *Stones - a much lesser version of what they once were.
Keeping Charlie in the picture is a nice tribute, and gives the band a bit more credibility.

Hoping the Charlie tribute will continue for the upcoming tour, and they keep his photo in all releases forever.
Pray they don't ever attempt to erase Charlie from the history of the band as they do with Bill...

Hi Hairball .. I was just on another post on another platform about Bill and the airbrushing out .. he apparently chose to have that, for new releases he wasn’t involved in
not sure if what I read is accurate though ..

That picture makes sense for something like Spotify, but for any touring going forward it seems they really should start using a promo shot of the three of them...for the same reason The Who don't have a picture with Keith and John. The band now is the three of them, sad as it is to say....so that's who people are going to see at the show.

But that is not airbrushing him out like what happened with Bill and the Rarities CD, that's a different issue which seems to be well documented on this forum, and does truly seem to be a contractual decision vs. a petty one.

Airbrushing Charlie out of pictures would absolutely be wrong and I think they'll never do it......but having that 4 shot picture as the image on ticketmaster for example would be strange now......but having it as the image on Spotify, XM, etc, etc....of course Charlie should be in the photo.
