Under My Thumb live versions

Most people don’t dig 1969’ Under My Thumb version, but it’s my favorite

Some day, some old guy (i.e, four years older than me), listened to some 1969 UMT boot version I played him, and he shrugged, sighed, and ultimatly moaned.
‘What is this ? I cannot recognize it’
Poor thing, he missed the anthemic the PA PA PA PA PA , (followed by the sixth upbeat) PA!
I said : ‘This slow-tempo, smooth, blended, great stuff, is much better than 1981’s UMT, to my taste’. Taylor and Richards, they touch the sky. And when followed by I’m Free, you double your pleasure.’
Wasn’t conviced, though…

Don't worry about the 'most people'. Little they know. Just enjoy a great version of a great tune.

Recorded in a tin can, I prefer the 'Got Live If You Want It' version from 1966. Generally the closer to when a studio version was recorded the better it sounded live. Or at least more authentic to the original recording.

Eggzactly, pretty sure most prefer '69. Possibly 2nd to Still Life, but I'd go w/ '69.

I pray that it's all right!

I like this version but I really like Still Life. Remember buying the album and playing it for the first time. Take the A Train and then explodes into UMT!

Been groovin on it a lot the last few weeks. Been playing the Ya-Ya's version so much that Apple Music picked it for my weekly favorite mix.

The only renditions I don’t particularly care for are those from recent tours. The studio-version is amongst my very favourite Stones recordings, and I do like the Got Live If You Want It version. The ‘69 performances are wonderful and it was magnificent during the 1981-82 tour.

It's very sloppy from the recent tours and is missing the groove. No feeling.

I think it has been much better on recent tours, compared to how they played it in 1997 and 2006.

I don't like the new lyrics, though, but that's another story...

I think the same. The karaoke versions of 1997 and 2006 got a more guitar-lead blues rock clothing lately. Also Mick started to sound more Mick Jagger than Micky Mouse.

Hmm... I think I'll have to listen to the more recent versions again, as what I had in mind were the Bridges to Babylon and A Bigger Bang tour performances.

There are many great versions of Under My Thumb by the Rolling Stones. Various 1981, Austin 2006
and in 1969 LA has great rambling Mick Taylor lead guitar (different than YaYas).
