IMO, the best Stones-albums are loaded with "non-hits", like Exile, Let It Bleed and Sticky Fingers. It does something with the flow on an album when there is a balance, and not every song is a "singalong belter".

Take SF: Sway, CYHMK, You Gotta Move, I Got The Blues, Sister Morphine. All brilliant tunes, but not single material. Yet every track deserves its spot on that album.

If I'd have to mention an album that I think isn't mentioned yet, The Lonesome Jubilee by Mellencamp comes to mind. Most of the songs (if not all) SOUNDS like hits (I know they aren't). I gotta admit that album is pretty good, though.

The Pretenders debut album?

I still think Who Made Who has to take first place it practically is a GH without being one.

Well except more than half the songs were previously released. It's like the Sucking In The Seventies of AC/DC.

Spot on for Pretenders.

Ah, well I don't remember that being part of the qualifications! LOL

Here you find words, Dandelion, to express in much, much improved and eloquent ways, what I immediately thought rather more crudely upon reading the opening post. So I remained silent. But now am able to support your view.

Anthemic, celebratory, empowering, euphoric, uplifting — these are some of the emotions evoked in me on listening to Funeral. A rare occurrence when many records produced in the last twenty years or so feel falling flat eventually, including AF’s more recent releases, Everything Now, their latest, in particular.

The new album, WE, their sixth, will be out on the forthcoming May 6.

Ha ha...I think the Alanis Morrisette album most of the songs actually were singles, so that helps!

The Kinks: Something Else
The Animals: Animalization (Would love to include this. It's a great set, however, I have to admit this does not contain any huge hits. To me this is the Animals LP that sounds like a proper album.)

Dire Straits - Communiqué

IMHO their best work that contains some of their best songs although I know it is not a popular opinion.
From Love Over Gold onwords, Team Knopfler discarded the “less is more” philosophy that had worked so effectively on the first three albums, and chose a wrong path. Shame.

The MOnks, Bad Habits.

OK, a guilty pleasure but it's pure pop and every song is like a single.

Talk Talk: Life's What You Make It (A somewhat forgotten band with a unique and instantly recognizable sound. All sounds on this album are great.)

Exile should not be a contender. It is far from a greatest hits package.

So many great albums listed here, I am surprised no one mentioned the most obvious one… Metal Machine Music.

Ha ha...I presume you're joking. Whether or not you love the album, it certainly doesn't play like a greatest hits!

Your point is valid! However for myself, I would buy any of those tracks as individual singles, and I think many others would agree! The whole album is one entire Greatest Hits collectively!!

EOMS is not so much a collection of greatest hits as deep cuts.

Yes, perhaps their best album, and certainly there are a lot that could have been singles. Rocks Off, Shine A Light, Rip This Joint, Sweet Virginia, Let it Loose, maybe All Down the Line, and of course Happy & Tumbling Dice, but that leaves about 10 great songs really not 'singles'.

Would have had a better chance as a single instead of double album, but I doubt many, including myself, would have preferred that!
