MSG '03 was a very good modern era Rambler.

MR was the encore at tour opener June 1, 1975. (Listed as two shows that day, not sure if setlists identical) The song ends, and Keith picks it up again for around another minute of MR jamming. Fantastic, don't know that's ever been performed like that before(LA '73" encore?). Fantastic version!!

May have been the best performance of the 2021 Nashville show. So, I prefer MR live, although the studio version is no joke.

Sad Sad Sad is Brown Sugar inverted.

In fact all open G riffs are inversions. Only Keith knows the maths.grinning smiley

LOL I meant, basically, literally - it's Brown Sugar twisted inside out.

Keith is probably better at a different kind of math than music.

Midnight Rambler on the b-stage from San Jose 1999 is really good.
Bangalore 2003 version is also nice (included in great quality on the fan club dvd).

As for earlier versions I like the Wembley 1973 soundboard.

Studio version is a bit stale.

Midnight Rambler on the b-stage at Staples Center 2003 was intensely amazing....I was mesmerized, I was rocked, and I was rolled....
It was the the free NRDC Benefit concert, and I was miraculously gifted with a ticket located on the rail of the B-stage from a close friend.
I've mentioned it before, but it was almost an out-of-body experience....Keith directly in front of me...blasting away...eye to eye contact...showing how it's done...
I had flashbacks of all those years I had been a fan of the Stones and Midnight Rambler...listening to various versions of MR repeatedly... playing guitar along to to it as a teenager, or trying to...
It was perhaps the most intense and memorable 10 minutes of a live Stones performance I'd ever experienced up to that point, and probably ever since...and it was free...
Listening back to the performance later on a bootleg was not quite as exceptional, but being there in person and in the moment was beyond my wildest dreams.

The version on Ladies & Gentleman is one of my favourites.

I've heard some great live versions but I think I prefer the studio version. A bit less bloated for lack of a better word.

LIVE

I guess just a preference
sentimental favorite is Ya-Ya's
best is Brussels 1973
and while not as supercharged as Brussels,
I've always like L.A.Friday as a personal favorite
When anyone asks me which is best, I usually go for the most intense version
and while our favorite band are in their last years, this song is 99% always the song that is the highlight, no matter how lackluster the rest of the show may have been.

Been on the lookout for this comment. It's a kind of modern Rambler benchmark to me
