I've never seen this Decca poster before for the Gimme Shelter album.

What is the point to this album?

"Songs from the movie Gimme Shelter?" I saw this album when I was a kid and thought I was getting a live album from Altamont.
I was very disappointed and thought I was intentionally mislead by the record company.

Then the live song were from Got Live if You Want It! They weren't from the Gimme Shelter movie! Rip-off! (stealing-fake)

Why wasn't Got Live if You Want It released in the only in the US and Canada?

Why put out only 6 live tracks from Got Live? Of course we all know they are not all live or all from Royal Albert Hall. WTF? (What the fcuk!)

I'm fairly sure this was just a cheap cash-grab by Decca at the time to cash-in on Gimme Shelter (the film).

The poster tells it all, fairly. One has to read it carefully iin order not to be cheated.
The first cover you post is midleading, instead. The latter is fair.
The album title is jutified by the presence of GS in the track-listing, but is also unfair as it lets the buyer believe that the album is somehow connected with the movie and/or Altmont.
It's not true that Got LIVE was only issued in USA and Canada.
It was issued in France and Holland. Northern countries received the UK copies, instead and imports were surely available in Italy, as I am told by older fellow Collectors.
It seems it is more appropiate to state that it was issued everywhere but in the UK. Why? Hard to say, actually.
In my opinion, in Europe the album had to make the fans desire tickets for the forthcoming European tour. No touring planned in UK, no Got LIVE in Uk.
On top of that, the album title would have been misleading in UK (EP or LP?), while it was unknown in the US. Most probably, ALO was so proud of the title he used it in the USA and this might have caused issues when releasing such an album in UK. My point of view, obviously, Luca

On the back cover of the album it states that the songs featured in the film are original recordings not soundtrack.

"Songs from the new Rolling Stones movie, Gimme Shelter"...songs but not 'recordings'.

An absolutely Allen Klein move.

That's exactly my story too. I saw Gimme Shelter in the cinema in the early seventies and was fascinated by the Stones and somehow also by the Angels, unfortunately. It was my first Stones album and when I bought it I was surprised that the stage on the cover looked so different from the one in the movie. It quickly became clear to me that the album had nothing to do with the film. That was a big disappointment.

Ha. I bought this record when I was about 15 years old and also thought it was the soundtrack to the movie. A year or so later I purchased the bootleg, Welcome to the breakfast show, which was the soundtrack (sort of).

Oh Decca you rascals!

Done at the time the Stones were disposing of Decca and Allen Klein. I remember a friend had this album. I remember looking at it strangely, wondering what exactly it was. I thought it was some kind of import ripoff. Guess I was right.

I kinda remember this one in the record stores back in the day... and could tell even back then that it was a ripoff.

People at Decca were arguablÿ still furious about the goodbye-single Rolling Stones left them in 1970.

I bought this album in the import section at Peaches Records in Milwaukee, WI in about 1976 thinking as well it was a live LP from the movie or 69 tour. Ugh.

Was a nice sounding LP as I remember.

Except that it wasn’t “An Allen Klein move”.
It was Decca in England. ABKCO and Decca were two different contracts.

record in the rack ...So he game it to me .....
Cover a lil shabby but record mint ... couple of spindle marks ...

The British Decca compilations were NOT part of the settlement with Allen Klein / ABKCO. ABKCO got the rights to release SOME compilation albums, together with assorted unreleased material (RNR Circus, Metamorphosis etc.)
Decca was a whole other matter. They were ‘free’ to repackage whatever they wanted in Europe.

I was a kid when I saw this album. I did not read the 'fine print.' It appeared to be a live album.

The songs were not from the movie. I learned a lesson! The record company was misleading.
