Did they ever play or rehearse "Highwire"?

Highwire is probably my favorite track from the "modern" area. Great Keith-Riff.
I wonder if they every played or rehearsed it live.
Are afraid of being too political?

Maybe during the shooting of the Promo-Video on 1-Mar-1991, NYC. Otherwise not played live or rehearsed - [TimeIsOnOurSide.com] , [NZentgraf.de] .

Wasn’t it all written by Mick about the Gulf War? The Gulf War is pretty muchancient history.Keith probably has no interest in playing it

It's a Mick's song that comes from Primitive Cool sessions.

Or the Wandering Spirit sessions since we now know thanks to Jimmy Rip that it was ready in 1988 !

But yes, it's a Mick song as he explained to RS when it was released in 1991. I'm sure the full quote is on "Timeisonmyside" ;-)

I agree. Too bad Mick totally swallowed the media lies spread by the usual spin doctors. "Another Munich we just can't afford"... cmon Mick, Saddam wasn't a modern-day H!tler.

Errr...I haven't checked the lyrics recently but I'm pretty sure that he was actually critical of that "assumption" in the song and of that particular war in general, hence the banning by the BBC, probably the last time that happened to the Stones.

Yes, it's based on the continuous live Air Strike Footage we saw back in '91 about the Gulf War....although I like the song it's a bit dated

Keith Richards is playing four different guitars in the 'Highwire' video: buttercream maple fingerboard Fender Strat, buttercream maple fingerboard Fender Tele, black maple fingerboard ESP Tele, and a black rosewood fingerboard Ernie Ball Music Man Silhouette.

Ron Wood is playing the same black maple fingerboard Fender Strat throughout.

I have no idea the brand of guitar Mick is playing. I recall seeing it in photos and videos from The Steel Wheels and Urban Jungle Tours.

On the Steel Wheels Tour, Mick's guitar had the brand name on the headstock. On the Urban Jungle Tour, that same guitar has a symbol on the headstock instead of the brand name.

Oh. So you don't take his point of view into consideration of what could happen, then. He even explains it in the video. Did you not watch it?

We worked on about 35 songs and whittled it down - but I don't do that anymore.

Mick, ya just said you still do.

WTF!

I did a Google image search with the guitar you mentioned and it's a match. Thank you for posting that. Much appreciated.

I didn't take it as Mick agreeing with them...in fact I read it the opposite. Look at the lyrics:

Highwire Lyrics
[Verse 1]
We sell them missiles, we sell them tanks
We give them credit, you can call up the bank
It's just a business, you can pay us in crude
You'll love these toys, just go play out your feuds
We got no pride, don't know whose boots to lick
We act so greedy, make me sick sick sick

[Pre-Chorus]
So get up, stand up, out of my way
I want to talk to the boss right away
Get up, stand up, who's gonna pay?
I want to talk to the man right away

[Chorus]
We walk the highwire
Sending the men to the front-line
And hoping they don't catch the hell-fire
Of hot guns and cold, cold knives

We walk the highwire
Sending the men to the front lines
And tell them to hotbed the sunshine
With hot guns and cold, cold knives

[Verse 2]
Our lives are threatened, our jobs at risk
Sometimes dictators need a slap on the wrist
Another Munich we just can't afford
We're going to send in the 82nd Airborne

Exactly.

The song wasnt 'banned' for the sentiment. Songs were temporarily banned at the time for having lyrics that might be insensitive. Even old songs like 'Rock The Casbah' and (believe it or not) Phil Collins' 'In The Air Tonight' were removed from radio playlists for the duration of the war.
