Had a tougher surprise in March 2014, flying from Paris and landing in Adelaide : the whole tour postponed, three missed shows (Adelaide, Sydney, Melbourne).. But I could attend to the Bobby + the unlucky bastards shows in Adelaide and Sydney... Came back later the same year in Australia and NZ to catch three shows.

In recent years the Stones had a longer (one week) break in the middle of the tour to rest. Seems that space between HP1 and HP2 was designed just for that. So not sure if they can, even contractually, give up this break to fit Bern show - though it seems as best choice logistically.
Any info on why it didnt work out?

Just arrived in Bern from Australia. Checked into the motel. 200m from the stadium. Just had a walk around. A bit disappointed but no complaints. We still have HP1 to go and will enjoy Switzerland. Fantastic country.

Wish they would make an announcnment soon...even as someone who wasn't planning on attending, reading all this speculation is causing a bit of anxiety. 
Still disappointed for the fans that this show was postponed, but glad to all those who made it to Bern even without a show are making the best of it - Switzerland is a beautiful country,
Stones at Wankdorf...to be or not to be...lets HOPE it happens!

The July 7 date was free, it was originally held for another show that did not make it, so it was a free slot available for rescheduling.
There are may be 23 trucks on this tour, and a large crew who work every day on the tour. Every day. I do know the crew have long days and work hard also on non-show days. The band is not just Mick, Keith, Ronnie and 8 others on stage. The break is there for a reason.
Any info on why it didnt work out?

Been hearing that both Helsinki and Warsaw got cancelled due to, well, for certain reasons.

What worries more is that on ticketcorner.ch the Bern show is gone. It used to say that a new data would be announced soon and now nothing anymore...

If there is no way Bern may give an optional date at the end of the tour, I will assume they "sit on" the rescheduling issue until they see if there are more cancellations. If more shows get canceled, they may do like they did in 2003, adding more shows to the end of the tour. Back then, they had 3 shows to reschedule (Benidorm, Amsterdam, Twickenham), and they added three more shows (Coimbra, Zaragoza, Zurich). See the IORR News 2003 for the rescheduling timing back then.
