OT: Rod Stewart 2022 North American Tour
Posted by: triceratops ()
Date: February 19, 2022 22:57

Here is my question. How come old man Rod is able to perform with little rest time for his vocal cords. while Mick needs 4 days between Rolling Stones concerts to rest them and recover? Is Rod rougher and tougher and stronger than Mick? Better genetics? Does he gulp down O2 while Keith sings his two? Ronnie is getting bored, so how many guest appearances will he make? I say five.

Rod Stewart and Cheap Trick will embark on their previously announced North American tour in June, with the band opening for the singer.

The road trip — which was originally scheduled for summer 2020 but twice postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic — starts in Vancouver on June 10 and ends in Edmonton on Sept. 17. Previously announced dates are on sale now, while most of the newly added U.S. tour dates go on sale to the general public on Feb. 25, and Canadian dates go on sale on March 4, all via Live Nation. (The June 18 show in Santa Barbara, Calif., is an exception, with tickets going on sale March 4 via AXS.)

You can see the full list of tour dates below.

Agreed. Everyone should be the same. People should be the same height, weight, intelligence, strength. There should be no differences from one person to the next.

LOL.

Actually, that is quite an aggressive schedule. I would suggest that at their age, going with a 'stones-like' schedule is prudent, keeps it fun on the road, less pressure, and less to go wrong.

Something goes sideways with Rod in that schedule and the whole house of cards comes tumbling down.

Yes that is a very hectic schedule. I guess he's always done it this way and it gets done quicker.

I posted a similar comment on the Paul McCartney thread, where he's playing 2 1/2 hours and doing back to back shows. My thought was that perhaps it was that Charlie needed the rest between shows? Mick does move around a lot more in concert than Rod/Paul/Elton etc. so perhaps he does need the extra rest?
Not sure if I'm going to see Rod's opening show in Vancouver. Just saw him a few years ago here, a really good show. I'll be seeing Cheap Trick in a couple months when they play here locally opening for ZZ Top. If I do go, I'll check to see American Express presales to see what cheaper seats are going for. Don't want to pay $200 plus for a ticket but if I can get a decent upper bowl for maybe $75 then I'll probably get tickets.

The only problem for a singer is the voice. Sir Michael could not have mastered such a schedule. I'm not so sure Sir Roderick can either. Does he even have a voice these days?

IMHO, 2 of my favorite artists together. Are they 1970's vintage - no way, but neither am I.

It helps when you lower the key to songs as Rod does. Mick sings everything in exactly the same key as when they recorded it. Throw in the 5-8 miles he clocks in at each show--he's got more than enough on his plate to deserve the rest between shows.

Maybe he's back on the cocaine suppositories. Source: Rod's autobiography on usage of said drugs. Ronnie was involved, too.

Me thinks Rod might crack along the way, or employ some hi tech tapes.

I have a great concert DVD of Rod's from 2004, at the Royal Albert Hall. Top notch entertainment. Ronnie plays on a couple songs too. But Rod has aged drastically since then. Yes, his voice is rough to begin with, but it's faded.

so what? Bob Dylan is playing 27 shows in March/April => [www.bobdylan.com]

Ronnie might be bored but I think he won't guest on Rod's tour since he'll stay in Europe and/or the UK

Sounds fun to me. Especially what kind of suppositories I have to use at my age.

No he won't ... didn't anybody tell you that he will be taking a luxary chair along as to sit down on from time to time during his show (maybe with a nice blonde girl on his lap as to hide his true lack of energy). Besides he may sing a bunch of Sinatra songs in order not to put too much pressure on his voice. Piece of cake ...

I would not now cross the road to see Rod.
In his day he was very good but I saw him pre-covid in UK a few years ago (2018 or 2019 I think) and his voice was weak. His show was more caberet than rock n roll in my opinion and he forgot the words to Maggie May.....say no more.

Rod Stewart hardly moves on stage

Re: Rod Stewart's grueling performance schedule, his upcoming US and Canada tour

The only movement that is critical for a singer is the movement of the vocal cords. Moving around on stage has nothing to do with it (either you are up to that or not). That and the fear of catching a cold. Nothing else.

Rod’s voice is shot, so is Macca’s. And Dylan?
On the other hand Mick still sounds very good. So obviously he’s doing the right thing by keeping days off between shows.

well, Dylan's voice might be shot but his singing/phrasing much better than it used to be in 2005-2007

Dylan's voice can't be shot since he never had a voice. He literally sings through his nose. That type of singing is unaffected by age. The only thing that would
shut his voice down is when he becomes so physically weak that he can't produce a sound at all.
