Mick harassing Ronnie on stage
Posted by: NashvilleBlues ()
Date: February 18, 2022 01:31

LA Forum 75 and Texas 78 show a handful of instances of Mick playfully pushing Ronnie, softly slapping his face, acting like he’s going to grab Ronnie’s crotch, etc. On Love You Live he says Ron Wood’s gay.

Seems like little brother-type treatment that he’d never try with Keith. Ronnie doesn’t seem to mind it.

Any other examples of this? You all know way more than I do about the Stones.

By the time it was 1978, Mick took his antics to another level; he licked Ronnie 's face (SNL) and grabbed Woody's crotch (Some Girls Live in Texas).
Ronnie didn't seem to mind.
Rockandroll,
Mops

I thought it made Mick look like a bully. Ronnie definitely didn't look like he enjoyed it. Ronnie was new and Mick could get away with it. Keith, Bill, or Charlie would have decked him.

didn't charlie object to the way ronnie was treated by mick?

I certainly wouldn’t have liked it. Ronnie played it off well, if he didn’t like it. Guess he was bullied into putting up with it.

I vaguely recall that Ronnie took Mick's sunglasses and ran around the stage with them (behind Charlies's riser even?) in Madison, WI USA on the Voodoo Lounge Tour in August 1994. Not quite the same as grabbing a crotch, but his own style of antics. cool smiley

Mick would snatch Ronnie’s cigarette from his mouth, occasionally. There’s definitely footage of that antic, captured.

I rather enjoy these antics. Adds to the show.

Me and my friends at their age have done much worse things and nobody cared. In fact, it was fun!

IMO, that's nothing worth talking about. It's just stage behaviour in these days. Other bands did much more offensive things on stage ...

Ronnie stole Jagger's banana a couple of years back, Jagger seemed upset

Jagger works hard for those bananas.

Not the kind of thing that would upset Ronnie very much.

He's always given the impression of being one of life's "Labradors".

It is all a reflection of the Faces influence on the Stones after Wood joined. The clowning around onstage that Rod Stewart and the Faces engaged in.You can see it in the change in Keith’s stage personality. It is really unimportant. They still did great live shows with Wood

as well as being a clever calculator? I mean he landed the best gig in the rock'n roll despite facing a rough competition... (how many guitarists have over the years approached Mick, telling him they'd do a much better job than this "clown").

Don't underestimate Honest Ron, he's one clever lad. He nearly got the axe in 82, he was practically useless on the 97 tour, but he's still here. thumbs up

Don't know if it was 1995 1997 or even later but I remember pictures of Mick grabbing Ronnie "by the fretboard" and pulling him around like you would do with a horse. That must be the most annoying thing (only if you're actually trying to play of course)

Hey knew Ronnie ate Bananas on stage but I never saw Mick eat one. Also I don’t think Mick would care he has the show to worry about

Banana-gate of Foxborough - 06. There’s an old thread from way back. The jury is still out on that incident.

The banana? It’s gone, Ronnie ate it and the incident is documented.

All very true,

But at heart I think he's still of those folks who's always eager to please but tends to crave approval. It's both a fault and a virtue.

Wasn’t it at the O2 in London (which still had a roof at that time) where Mick introduced Ronnie during the band intros as ‘…and on the banana, Ronnie Wood!’? grinning smiley

(If you haven’t heard… storm Eunice ripped much of the roof off today.)
