I'd don't wanna be disparaging, but I'd suggest the list is a bit longer than he'd like to admit.

Keith has no interest in copying guitarists whose music doesn't interest him in the slightest. That's the distinction I believe. I'm sure that he couldn't copy a death-metal shredder guitarist or Frank Zappa or Wes Montgomery, and I don't believe that he'd want to do so. Good for him! He is specialized in muscular rock and roll riffs, raffs, and twangs.

Something I have noticed while listening to That's Allright Mama(1954) is the sliding little phrase that Scotty plays several times; it seems to me to have influenced Keith. Two notes played together and sliding them which creates a nice musical phrase that is very noticeable. Thank you Scotty.

I would think Brian Setzer to be a guy he admires and can't copy.

Copy now or copy ever? It's a moot point if talking about Keith, an almost 80 yr old now. However, in his prime while he'd probably never have been a shredder, he was plenty competent to do more and copy more guitarists if he'd been so inclined. Plus, why would he ever want to copy anyone who came after him?

I suddenly picture a mid-80's Keith at home, guitar in hand, a copy of "Guitar World" next to him, trying to read the tab transcription of Eddie VH's "Eruption".

"Errrr.... how the f@ck this one's supposed to go!? What? I have to put both hands on the guitar neck? BUGGERY!"

+ 1

I don't know of many guitarists who can copy Brian Setzer.

The only one, he was able to copy, is Chuck Berry.

So much so, that he was able to create his own take on Berry’s style. In my opinion, Keith took Berry’s playing, and created something new and unique.

And he did it so early in his career. I mean as early as 65 ("Satisfaction") or 66 "19th Nervous Breakdown").

Hendrix. Than again, no one quite can.

100% agree, dmay.

But Keith also can't copy (just a few in no particular order):

Mick Taylor

Brian May
Mark Knopfler
Jeff Beck
Al di Meola
Wes Montgomery
George Benson
Barney Kessel
Brian Setzer
Richie Blackmoore
Hubert Sumlin
Magic Sam
The three Kings
Steve Cropper
Jimmy Page and on and on .......

Please don't understand this as "Keith Bashing"
I liked his playing a lot from the early 60ies to the very early 80ies.

No expert here! Just my 2 cts.
