There are some great acts among the new nominees but - if I understand correctly - it is mysterious and disappointing that Lowell George and Little Feat have still not been nominated. They deserve more than all those acts.

I'm giving a big vote for Sir Doug Sahm of the good ol' Sir Douglas Quintet, Texas Tornados, and guest on umpteen recordings by anyone and everyone he felt a connection to.

Needless to say Sir Doug has no chance whatsoever of getting nominated. Never mind selected. Too much of a maverick. Too independent. Too eclectic. Too difficult to categorise. Too anti-establishment. Too cool. And not remotely successful enough sales-wise or chart-wise.

But you sure knew how to play and perform Sir Doug. You cared nothing for fame, fortune and success. You just loved the music my friend.

Sir Doug - you will ALWAYS be in the highest place of honour in my own personal Rock & Roll Hall of Fame sir. As you said yourself 'You can't live in Texas unless you got a lot of soul'. And you have had, and always will have, unlimited supplies of that very thing. Soul!

This has become to what Jerry Seinfeld would describe as a: pretentious, high-minded, selfcongratulatory B.S. event

To each his/her own, but I love The New York Dolls! That said, we all know the RNR HOF hasn't meant much at all for a long time, if it ever did.

The Dolls were outstanding and even better live. Sylvain was outstanding and David Johansen is a great front man.

I guess some people don't like this style of rock n' roll; I can't imagine not getting the Stooges, MC5, Dolls...but like you said, to each his/her own.

Hearing beauty in music is like a muscle you need to develop; most have not.

J. Geils Band, the greatest American band of all time...not even nominated. At least the Stooges are in. X will never get a mention.

P.S. Always loved that gal at 2:10 in that video; she gets it.

Did I dream there was once a group called Jethro Tull? Was I having auditory hallucinations? Whatever mental sickness I had, I remember there being an often solid rock beat, and some fine lyrics. In my dream Jethro Tull was better than any of the current nominees. Actually had numerous hit records and albums. Not in the upper stratosphere with the Beatles, Stones, Led Zeppelin, but certainly finer, and more relevant to rock and roll than Lionel Richie, Kate Bush, and Carly Simon.

(Face it, they've run out of acts. It probably hurt them to include Devo, who actually were innovative while having hit records. And they've probably been eligible since the late 90s.)

Do you think there will ever come a year a-la the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown NY , when there will be no one inducted in a calendar year ? The list of nominee's is weak , as the RRHOF is becoming a caricature of it's former self .

Steppenwolf should definitely be in the R/R Hall of Fame, no doubt about it.

J Geils Band nominated five times yet incredulously still not in.

I think the success they had with the Love Stinks/Freeze Frame albums actually hurt their chances. Voters who became most familiar with them from that era likely thought of them as more one hit wonders as they were the last albums they put out.

The last one after those "You're Getting Even, While I'm Getting Odd" without Peter Wolf also likely didn't help.
Their seventies output prior to that was definitely HOF worthy on it's own imo.

No, because they have a pre-determined number of acts that get nominated and inducted every year, no matter how weak the scrapings at the bottom of the barrel become. I think, generally, they nominate 16 and induct eight.

"Peanut, Peanut Butter" J Geils!!! So many great tunes! Not to mention the songs Peter wrote that other artist sang.

I've never heard of this person.

I think they should change the name to Music Hall of Fame because alot of the nominees over the years have nothing to do with rock music. Dionne Warwick and Dolly Parton are great but definitely not rock.

Do you think there's a prejudice in the RRHOF against actual rockers? How odd that the likes of Tull, J. Geils, and Steppenwolf, all with numerous hit records that rocked, are passed over for the likes of Billy Joel, Madonna, or Dionnne Warwick? Maybe Joel did a couple rock/pop numbers, but Madonna and Warwick never even approached rock and roll.

Change the name! The Rock and Roll and Pop and Hip Hop Hall of Fame.
