Stones On Tracks Of Other Artists

Hi Everyone,

I’m trying to compile a list of songs (studio tracks or live) whereby the Stones (as a group) are credited as having performed in a supporting role on some other headliner’s material. The ones that come to mind immediately are the following:

Cleo - To Know Him Is To Love Him
The Andrew Loog Oldham Orchestra - There Are But 5 Rolling Stones
Billy Preston - That’s Life
Billy Preston - Outa Space
The Chieftains - The Rocky Road To Dublin
B.B. King - Paying The Cost To Be The Boss
Ben Waters - Watching The River Flow

Are you aware of any others? Thanks in advance!

For Brian: [brianjonesresource.wixsite.com]

There's a few more, one or two that are likely, but a bit dubious, and some that are claimed, but most definitely don't feature Brian.

Mick and Keith are both on Peter Wolf's solo album "Sleepless."

Mick -- b/g vox on Nothing But the Wheel
Keith -- Too Close Together

and I THINK Mick sings background vox on Peter's earlier solo album "Lights Out" on the song "Pretty Lady."

That's John Paul Jones' one-off single from 1964, I think. Produced by Andrew Loog Oldham, yet surely it must feature John Paul Jones on bass!

As Tears Go By is generally considered Jimmy Page on the 12-string acoustic.

Lots of people posting individual Stones appearing on albums. The post asked about the Stones as a group contributing to albums.

From Clarksdale To Heaven [various artists] (BlueStorm, 2002) – John Lee Hooker tribute album

Stoned Again (Barry Goldberg) (Antone's Records, 2002)

Meaning of Life (Todd Sharpville) (Cathouse/Universal, 2003)

Key To Love (Debbie Davies) (Shanachie Records, 2003)

Shadow Man (re-release of an album from 1996) (2003) – originally released by Alpha Music in Japan in 1996, this "Mick Taylor featuring Sasha" album should have read "Sasha featuring Mick Taylor", but the company felt it would sell better under a household name. It features Mick Taylor on guitar, but is basically a Sasha Gracanin album.

Unterwegs (Crazy Chris Kramer) (2009)

Chicago Blues (Crazy Chris Kramer) (2010)

From Ben Waters:

"As the holidays take off I have less time to do gigs, but I am really looking forward to playing for Lord and Lady Egremont at the Petworth Festival - If you take any notice of this email, make sure you know this is going to be special, its The Ben Waters Band with special guest Dave Kelly - anyone who has seen Dave knows how amazing he is, we have just recorded a track with Keith Richards together which I am really pleased about - Watch This Space..."
