RIP

As a teenager in the 90s I drunkenly sang along to his huge hits in an ironic way.

Listening to some of the tunes recently, I realised that they are beautifully crafted, bombastic masterpieces. Meatloaf and Jim Steinman were a hell of a team.

Lately I loved those songs sincerely.

RIP Meatloaf, and thank you for soundtracking so many good times.

I know him mostly too for his 1993 song "I'd Do Anything for Love (But I Won't Do That)" - Wikipedia.

It was a typical song for the German/Belgian/Dutch KuschelRock/KnuffelRock Compilation-Series by Sony Music (kuschel/knuffel=cuddle).

Rest in peace Meat Loaf - and thank you for the Music.

I was surprised to learn that he was already 30 years old when Bat Out of Hell was released. It's unusual for someone to make it that big at such an advanced age. I thought Christgau's review of that first album was particularly insightful. "Bruce Springsteen beware," he wrote. "This is what you have wrought, and it could happen to you." He gave it a C-.

RIP Meat.

Grew up with Bat out of hell being spun in the background. A great album. Jim & Meat both gone now.

On, damn! RIP Meat Loaf. From RHPS to Bat Out Of Hell and beyond, that voice echoed.

I was introduced to RHPS much too young, but we somehow found out that a teacher had played Frank ‘N Furter in an underground remake in ‘77 (scandalous!) so we all snuck out to see it. Hot Patootie was a great rocker. Thanks for the songs Meat Loaf.

Adding: just listening to the CBC talk about him and his 3-octave range that could have seen him take a career in Opera, apparently his 2 musical heroes were Mick Jagger and…Ethel Merman! grinning smiley

And this lie that most of us believed when we were teenagers...

There's always something magic
There's always something new
And when you really really need it the most
That's when rock and roll dreams come true for you
The beat is yours forever, the beat is always true

Damn- Bat Out Of Hell a legit part of the soundtrack of my life.
HUGE album when that came out in '77, when seeing Paradise by the Dashboard Light was a fairly regular occurrence for a lot of us winking smiley

Also one of the best club shows I've ever been to.
RIP- Meat

Sad news. This guy made quit a few good albums especially the ones with Jim Steinman.
I think one of the best performances of him I saw in 2001 with an orchestra at the Night of the Proms in Holland

Bat Out Of Hell sold something like 44 million copies, one of the best selling albums of all time. Only Jackson, ACDC and Whitney were ahead of that album.

RIP! ... Some pretty good tunes, and don't forget he was in Fight Club (although first rule of Fight Club is that we can't talk about Fight Club)!

Sad news, RIP.

Saw him once about 3 years ago...the vocals were no longer there unfortunately but still a spectacle of a show. Some great music along the way.

RIP Meat Loaf.

Personally he has remained a pretty distant figure. His hey-day probably had gone when I started to get into rock music, and that particular period of late-70's American rock has never been my forte. I didn't know that his debut album was such a huge commercial success. Has sold something like 35-40 million copies.

Like his contribution in "Rocky Horror Picture Show" and "Fight Club", though.

Parted ways musically and politically with him decades ago, but never diminished his talent or his contribution(s) from back in the day...

Shame to find out (reportedly) that he died from covid after being anti-vaccine.
