The stamp collection is available to order on the Royal Mail website now. Bagged myself the Prestige Stamp Book, the Gold Stamp Set, two first day covers and a sheet of stamps.

thumbs up

I checked it out. I just couldn't bring myself to pull the trigger. The silver 1 oz ones interested me.

Didn't pull the trigger either. I am quite sure that I will look at it once, and then see it as another picture of Keith, Ronnie and so on.
Why isn't there a stamp on the sheet with a picture of the band in the beginning of the '60's ?

Totally agree. Can only assume that the band has some input here.

Has anybody here had any luck registering?

Royal Mail

Could it be that registration is only possible within the UK? Or has the system been overloaded with registration requests in the past 9 hours?

You cannot place an order without being registered.

CORRECTION: It IS possible to place an order without registration

As a stamp collector I just had to get these stamps, even if I do only collect stamps from Norway, with the exception of Stones-related stamps. So I ordered the 8-block and the 4-stamp miniature sheet.

The Royal Mail registration system doesn't seem to work, but I had no problem ordereing them to my address in Norway without any registration.

I had to play around with browsers before my order could complete - Edge seemed to work for me - otherwise kept getting a 'terms and conditions' error loop.

Thank-you all, I was finally able to place the order, registration is indeed not required to complete the checkout :-)

The reason why Bill and Mick Taylor aren't on there? Simple - because there're not part of the band anymore. It was their own choice.

No, this stamp collection is being released to celebrate the bands 60 year career. Brian, Bill and Mick T made key contributions to that career and legacy. To not include either former members simply misrepresents history. Misrepresentation of history does not sit comfortably with me.

I would have expected better from a publicly funded organisation such as the Royal Mail.

The FDC (First Day Cover) stamp is using the IORR fan club logo, first time used in the IORR magazine no. 4 dated May 1982, also used on membership cards, stickers, T-shirt and other stuff I made in the 80's.

It is just 12 different postage stamps, but a LOT of commercial packages to make money both for UK Royal Mail and The Rolling Stones. Most of these stamps will never be used for mailing purposes, so it is pure income with a minimum of cost.

Anyone else notice the glaring errors on this sheet of stamps?

well, if you're referring to the first and third row, the Queens head is missing, and no value is shown either. If these really were stamps, they would be extremely valuable! however, the Royal Mail site lists this item as '8 special stamps, with complimentary self-adhesive labels', so I guess these are the labels!

Unless I'm missing something else?

Yes, those 'labels' are attached to the actual stamps and are not stamps in their own right. You used to be able (and maybe still can) to order stamps with your own 'label' which can be a picture of anything you want, within reason. One year, I had the Stones red tongue logo as a label attached to Christmas stamps which I sent out to friends.

Wow, looks like Bill, Mick T and Brian have been well and truly cancelled ..... confused smiley

Terrible, and cheapens the entire collection.

Agree, absolutely disgusting. Airbrushing at its most awful!

Absolutely agree. This is an appalling and totally unnecessary misrepresentation engineered by Jagger, Richards & Wood (Royal Mail says they worked closely with them on this project). I notice that they included Charlie Watts on the stamps and yet he is no longer in the band as it approaches its' 60th anniversary, so on that basis alone BJ, BW, & MT should be included. Without them IMO Jagger and Richards would not be where they are today.
