NWA "Straight Outta Compton" is a pretty damn powerful record, too.

Yeah it is; phenomenally so. I still think it's such a great record. I also quite like Ice Cube's debut release.

Kendrick Lamar -- King Kunta .... lurv dat one

I’m a Kendrick Lamar fan. Yep, that’s a good song. I don’t like them all, but he does have a nice collection of originals.

And the fashion sense of rappers... You'll be glad if you're spared the view of their asscrack during a concert.
Keith's imaginary address to them : "what's wrong with you foockers? You're dressed like inmates! I was dressed better than you the night I spent at
Wormwood Scrubs in '67! (urh urh urh). In the 50's Muddy didn't have a nickel but he'd be dressed like a squire when he'd walk a stage! What's wrong with you?"

Memo from Turner might have been the original rap song.

Subterranean Homesick Blues by Bob Dylan fits the description better.

Well I'd say Subterranean Homesick Blues or pick a cut off of Velvet Underground and Nico for that honor.

Joe Tex was rapping in the 60s already. He even called it rap back then.

Hate to say it, but I agree with Keith. I've never heard a very popular genre, such as rap, not evolve at all. I tried to listen to Kendrick Lamar to see what the hub-bub was. It just wouldn't go in my ears. Same with the Grateful Dead. You can distinguish rock from the 50s with rock from the 60s, and 70s. After Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five, rap died as an art form.

I’d say Public Enemy were the last great rap act. Since then it’s a joke.
Auto tune to the max.

Little Simz, Brockhampton, Tyler the Creator, Nas, slowthai, Tha God Fahim x Your Old Droog, R.a.p. Ferreira, Kanye West, Armand Hammer & The Aclchemist, Jpegmafia, Westside Gunn all released great albums THIS year.

The evolution of hip hop is not the problem, it’s in fine hands.
The (your?) problem is you don’t listen anymore.

Everytime I listen it sounds the same. Must be my ears. Oh well, we can't all be rap fans.

Is Mick rapping on Hot Stuff

Maybe rather 'toasting' (of which I know almost nothing).

Yeah, hey, that’s perfectly fine! I don’t agree hiphop is dead though, it’s the only genre where new interesting things are happening, but ok…

My response was to someone who referred to Public Enemy, claiming to be the last great rap music. And everything is a joke after that.
If you like Public Enemy, there’s tons of great hiphop out there for you.

I think that Keith's opinions on music/style are a bit rusty in general. Jaggers always has been going along with the change over the years.

You're right now that you mention it, that's exactly the same as the part in ASMB

Or you could say that Keith has better taste than Mick.

I think Jagger is less biased than Keith when it comes to making music, or musical taste. It shows because of the musicians Keith and Mick have played with over the years, outside the Stones.

I think it shows that Keith is more focused on his strengths whereas Mick will try anything that might be considered the flavor of the month which exposes all of his weaknesses.

When asked about Kurt Cobain after his death, Keith said something like he (Kurt) wouldn’t have made a very good plumber. Seemed a bit dismissive and insensitive. And it fits with what you said Harlem shuffle.

Keith played guitar on this track by Canadian/Somalian artist K'naan, who is considered by most as a hip-hop artist a/k/a rapper:
The connection there is probably Manny Marroquin who mixed both K'naan's album and the Stones' "Doom and Gloom".
It would have been awesome had the Stones done a whole album with Marroquin.

This is the essence of what makes the Stones. The tug of war between Mick and Keith.

Keith is known for slagging other musicians and genres off. Not his best side. Kinda reminds of all those old men who hated the Stones as a whole in the 60s. Hip hop and rap as a genre can not be bad. Just like any other music, it has some really great stuff and some not that great. That is all. You would think that Keith is smart enough to understand that.

I think read an article years ago where Keith said Mick did the first rap on Fingerprint File.
