"Deep Love": who's playing drums?

[youtu.be]

The more i listen to it, the more it doesn't sound like Charlie's style to me.
Could it be Steve Jordan who played in those sessions? Or Ronnie?

What a Fantastic track!

From which album's sessions?

I don't know answer to your question but that might give a clue.

If DW sessions ,- very possibly someone else.

I believe it’s Chuck Leavell.

Yeah, the riff was nicked from one of the best (Richie Blackmore, SOTW) ...

Some fiery playing indeed but unfortunately the song consists just of the riff and nothing else.

Apparently "Deep Love" I was demoed in Paris with Chuck on drums.
But who plays on "Deep Love" II the one that features Jagger on vocals? Jordan?

I don’t think the version cut with Mick on vocals is from DW, so probably not Jordan. Sounds to me like it could be from Voodoo Lounge.

Man, I don’t know. I listened again. There are layers on there that are definitively DW. In any case, I still think the second version is Charlie.

The versions are from DW sessions in 1985. I always thought it is Ron Wood on drums, it really is his style. I have no idea about how Chuck Leavell sounds on drums.

I think the guy on the stool misses too many cues so I'd tend to think it's not Honest Ron.
But really I don't know. Maybe one member could compare it to "Invitation" or "Sleep Tonight"?

I would not have guessed it, either. The only reason I know is because he told me!

I was as surprised about this as I was hearing it's chuck on drums.
The source is chuck again?

I get the resemblance to Smoke on the Water, but I doubt that’s what Keith, or Chuck, or anyone was thinking.

Iirc it's a very generic I-IIIm-IV chord progression in the key of A so it may sound like a lot of other songs.
But Keith's vibe on guitar makes it interesting.

Yes, first part is same as / v similar to Smoke on the Water.

But the whole progression, including it's conclusion really is top Keith stuff.

So much deserved development into a full song.

Knocks the socks off the relatively lame rockers he put on TIS - I can't think why he ignored this track for that album - although nothing else there is in this kick- arse calibre -

- anyway, that way Jordan would be on it - bless his cotton bash-bash socks.

Hmmm .... two sock epithets in one post. Can't think of any more ....yet ....
