Steve Bronski died aged 61. He formed the British synthpop trio Bronski Beat which achieved success in the mid-1980s with 'Why' and 'Smalltown Boy' from their 1984 debut album The Age of Consent - [en.Wikipedia.org] :

I think I might have heard the name back in the 80s but I'm not familiar with their music. Regardless, rest in peace Steve. Your music meant a lot to the fans of your band!

35+ years ago the 3 Tracks from the above YT-Videos got a lot of Radio Airplay in Western Europe. They reached #6, #3, #3 in the UK-Charts and #5, #3, #4 in the German Charts for instance.

I don't think they were very big over in North America, at least not in Canada. I used to watch MTV and MuchMusic in Canada a lot back then and don't recognize the songs or vids.

US-Albums Chart was peak #36 and Canadian-Albums-Chart was peak #7 in 1985 for their Album: The Age of Consent.

'Smalltown Boy' was in 1984 in the Canada-Top-Singles at Pos. #9 (1985: #86) and in the US-Billboard-Hot-100 at Pos. #48 - [en.Wikipedia.org] .
