I’ve always thought it was about a relationship in which both parties were aware that their rendezvous would be brief and seldom due to other outside circumstances. It makes the song a lot more melancholy than one that said “see ya soon!”.
How does it mean a gun? (Other than ventilating people by putting holes in them?)

now i maybe wrong but i think the lyrics to the song have can be interpreted in many different way and this is on purpose

Thanks for correcting and highlighting me. I don't know much about gambling.
More like rejected.
My aunts and uncles, who played a lot of whist, certainly used to say "all sixes and sevens" about a poor hand, and having no "money" in the hand meant you had no decent cards too.
That's just poor writing.
