That would not surprise me one bit. I've seen lots of shitshow entrances in my time for the Stones and others. Even a gig with ott expensive tickets isn't spared.

Sounds like it was literally a shitshow on many levels as I've been reading more and more from friends (and friends of friends) on social media of a near stampede atmosphere to get to the pit, and once there complete anarchy with security being almost completely non-existent. One lady getting wheeled away after passing out from the crush to never return, several others being violently pushed and shoved repeatedly throughout the show, one guy who was handcuffed and hauled away, and quite a few belligerent drunks who didn't give a crap about anything. Had this been 1978 or 1981 understandable and even expected, but in 2021 sounds a bit over the top with many saying they would have rather had a seat. And then hearing the stories of muffled/terrible sound being in the pit, not to mention the short and standard setlist...a weird and disappointing way to end the tour. A shame.

HOLLYWOOD, FLA. — As it turns out, you can sometimes get what you want.

Such was the case Tuesday night for the lucky fans who scored exclusive tickets to The Rolling Stones’ one-night-only show at the 7,000-seat Hard Rock Live at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood, Fla. — the most intimate venue the band has played in more than 12 years.

Coming 52 years after the Stones first played in Florida, Tuesday’s show was a last-minute addition to the schedule, marking the final night of the band’s four-year, sold-out, worldwide No Filter Tour.

As with every show since the August death of Charlie Watts, the show opened with an uplifting video tribute to the band’s late drummer.

The Stones then kicked off the two-hour show with the raw and raunchy “Street Fighting Man,” which saw Mick Jagger whip the crowd into a frenzy by shuffling, sidestepping, kicking and shimmying across the stage only a few tantalizing feet from the standing-room-only pit area.

“Let’s Spend the Night Together,” a song mild by today’s standards but censored in the 1960s for its suggestive lyrics, rolled into another mid-’60s hit, “19th Nervous Breakdown.”

Jagger animatedly sang the lyrics about a mentally unstable woman, rolling his eyes and shooting looks at Keith Richards and Ron Wood who laughed in what appeared to be unspoken solidarity.

Jagger then paused briefly to dedicate the night’s show to Watts, sending the audience into a collective chant of “Char-lie, Char-lie!”

The gritty “Tumbling Dice” preceded an unusually mellow and somewhat bluesy rendition of “You Can’t Always Get What You Want,” during which Jagger strapped on an acoustic guitar as the crowd belted out the infamous lyrics word-for-word along with him.

Jagger scoffed briefly about COVID, which had delayed the current tour by a year, before the band broke into its latest hit, “Living in a Ghost Town” — a somewhat eerie tune that was written and recorded during and about the frustrations of pandemic lockdowns.

Blowing on his harmonica and sometimes speak-singing in a deep, whispery voice, Jagger held the melody while Darryl Jones, who in 1993 took over for retired bassist Bill Wyman, plucked out a slow, steady bassline.

The low-key Richards sprung to life with the first, instantly recognizable chords of “Start Me Up.” He then offered a twangy solo for the band's No. 1 country-rock hit, “Honky Tonk Women.” True to fashion, Richards forwent the intricate fretwork preferred by many rock guitarists in favor of rhythmic riffs that seem to flow out of somewhere deep inside him almost effortlessly.

Jagger, during a rare conversation with the audience, said he was glad to be ending the No Filter Tour in the Miami area, saying, “It just feels right.”

It was unfortunate, he said, that he would have to miss some of the great events coming up in the area, such as Art Basel, Jason Bonham’s show at the Hard Rock and the Donald Trump and Bill O’Reilly tour.

At the mention of the latter, the normally non-political Jagger smirked, turned on his heel and padded to the back of the stage, as some audience members laughed and broke into a collective boo that was decidedly not directed at Jagger.

Jagger introduced the band members before taking a short break, leaving Richards to lead vocals on the slightly manic “Connection” and the slow groove of “Slipping Away.” The crowd went wild, proving that one need not have a perfectly trained voice to be an entertaining singer.

Jagger returned for a funkified version of “Miss You,” slithering, sliding and shaking his hips to the high-spirited horns of saxophone greats Karl Denson and Tim Reis and the undulating beat of Jones and drummer Steve Jordan.

A mind-blowing version of “Midnight Rambler” started with Jagger in prime form on harmonica and included him falling to his knees in front of fans at the edge of the stage.

Richards and Wood postured face-to-face, playing seamlessly off one another as Jagger bopped and strutted with a level of energy that has not dissipated one bit in his 60 years fronting the band.

“Paint it Black” harkened the Stones’ trippy, psychedelic period with white lights flashing across the stark, smoky stage while overhead video screens depicted band members melting and blurring in ways that audience members who were teenagers in the ‘60s and ‘70s have likely seen before.

Flames made of lights flickered across the curtains at the rear of the stage as Jagger swaggered out in a black-sequined tailcoat at the first chords of “Sympathy for the Devil.”

Adding even more depth to the layered musical arrangement was one of the things that makes Jagger the quintessential front man — the innate ability to captivate his audience with decades-old lyrics as if singing them for the very first time.

To the delight of the crowd, Richards took a rare stroll out to the small platform jutting from the front of the stage and then smiled and shook his head watching Jagger sashay back and forth, pump his arms and shake a set of maracas while standing on the drum riser.

After a false ending to the concert that fooled no one, the Stones returned for an encore of the haunting “Gimme Shelter.” In a turnabout from her usual onstage playfulness, back-up singer Sasha Allen joined Jagger for an impassioned, spine-tingling rendition of the dark and foreboding song Jagger once referred to as apocalyptic.

The Stones wrapped up the show on a lighter note, sharing laughs and bantering between themselves during what is perhaps their best-known hit, “(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction.”

And while the band’s departure conspicuously lacked the familiar, “See you next time,” Stones fans undoubtedly got more than enough satisfaction to last a lifetime.

I moved all around in PIT but never found a view that wasn't pretty obstructed. You will see it in vids. Even security was much more in the view due to low stage.

Monday and Tuesday Nov 15 & 16 I was at England's greatest young rock n roll band's two shows in DC.

Wolf Alice's two DC shows really should have been in a venue at least twice as big. Union Stage is in a basement, its 450 capacity was sold out for both shows months ago. The audience space in front of the stage is uneven, there's a pillar maybe 50 ft out from the stage, and the low ceiling gives the crowd's body heat nowhere to go.

The 1st show, Monday's, standing next to me was a dad wearing a bookbag-backpack for coats... with his little 7?, 8 maybe? year-old daughter. I asked him, Does she like Wolf Alice? He said her older sister does more, and was coming. But the little sis heard a song on the new album Blue Weekend that she decided she likes, and then of course she had to go too. He said no way would he have been able to handle both of them there at once, so each are getting a night.

Wonderful little girl, excited but well behaved, very pretty long hair. (The kind of kid, it struck me, that I think I (being ex-law enforcement) would have been constantly fearful some dirtbag would want to snatch.) I thought the dad really should have tried to get him and her all the way to the front so she could see the whole time. That people might have made room for such a little girl and her dad.

I was standing to their immediate right; they were adjacent to a rope line on their left. He picked her up a lot, but she was too heavy to hold up for long spells. I also thought he should put her on his shoulders, or lift her higher piggy-back, and was tempted to suggest he try one of those. But he was daddying big time, protecting his little chickling -- they both stayed masked the whole show -- and it clearly was a major father-daughter bonding night for them. I realized he didn't need to field suggestions from some guy drinking a beer who he didn't know; so kept the suggestions to myself.

We weren't all that far back, though, and frontwoman Ellie Rowsell definitely spotted the girl being raised up multiple times throughout the show.

When the Monday night show ended and the band started leaving the stage, I noticed Ellie exiting on our side, the side opposite from where the guys were going. It seemed unusual but I didn't try to keep visual track of her. Immediately though I was conscious of her darting along the rope line... and then there was movement down and to my left. As I looked down, she's standing up from a crouch and starting back towards the stage.

The little girl's hands were clasped in front of her and her face was all excited. I asked her dad, What'd Ellie just do? "Show him," he said.

She lowered her arms forward and carefully unclenched her hands. Ellie had come out to find her and given the little girl her guitar pick. In spite of her mask you could see the girl's face was all lit up, and how thrilled she was. I gave her a WOW, as big-eyed and best I could from behind my own mask.

That was a great moment. A shame nobody had been fast-reacting enough to get a picture of Ellie crouched down with her.

(I strongly recommend seeing Wolf Alice if you get the chance. Their albums are great and the band is just awesome live.)

To be honest I was riding my most intense natural high in years after my incredible score and coming in a grand under budget that the actual content and setlist itself didn't matter and I was just flying the whole show.

The fact that 19th Nervous Breakdown and Paint It Black are 2 of my most favorite songs ever by anyone and are never to be taken for granted always makes for a great show.

And while looking good on paper, in my particular spot a bunch of rarities would have shifted the crowd dynamic around me and been a major bummer.

All this chitter chatter about pit stampedes .....
Too much sugar ... Stones should push for vegan crowds ....

After 2 Wolf Alice shows last week, Saturday I saw Pittsboro NC's own alt country Sarah Shook & the Disarmers. No stampede... there were only about 150 of us. But Sarah's a hoot. In a Rolling Stone magazine interview:
"This genre of music attracts a certain kind of person sometimes who is very close-minded, and I want to tell those people, 'Look, you're welcome to be a fan. But full disclosure, I'm a f*cking civil rights activist, and I'm a bisexual, and I'm an atheist, and I'm a vegan.' That's a whole lot of non-redneck shit right there."

Hippie or redneck or anywhere in between, it'd have been hard for most anybody to have not enjoyed her show.

Yeah if the Stones surrounded the venues
with water & vegan food vans/stalls the stampedes would diminish ...

Couldn’t agree more! A great band and a great live act. Nice to hear that story about the Dad & his girl getting a pick from Ellie. That little girl could be the next generation of rocker! She has a pick. Time for a guitar now

Oh shit. I read this whole thread and most of it, even before the bloody concert even started, was full of negativity and whatever kind of bitching (the people who actually were there, including the thrilled press, with their too subjective, positive accounts do not matter, of course, for the true experts behind their laptops). Anyway, thankfully (sarcasm!) the Stones do not perform any longer (ever or for some time) that people now can live happily without being disturbed by their horrible set lists or weak musicianship.

Oh yeah, 'everybody is entitled to their opinion', etc. but I sometimes think that is voicing so called opinion really that important? We have those like we have @#$%&, but you know, sometimes we could actually use more our sense than our @#$%& in judging what really we have to say for a certain audience or not. No cancelling or censorship (yakee!), just a sort of practical understanding of the context and of other people. You know, decent human behavior.

Of course, rocket science for some people (I am pretty naive, I admit).

But come on, people, go on and read this whole thread and judge it for yourself. As people who bother to gather here for a certain, shared reason.

I think you know that I often agree with you, but here I must say that I respectfully don't.

As one of the "true experts behind their laptops" I started going sarcastic after checking the setlist on SJ's site. 17 songs only and, more importantly, not one special song for this occasion that in the past was usually the occasion for something special, for an extra effort - because an occasion like this is usually designed for the die-hards, and I'm pretty sure the band is absolutely aware of this and the expectations of those fans who would probably kill whomever to get into a "smaller" show like this.

As someone else mentioned in this thread, it looked like the band treated this show like their shows for millionaires or billionaires: Shorter sets, warhorses only. What may be the perfect concept for these ultra-rich people and the people they invite (who may not even be fans or know not more than a handful of superhits) must have turned out as a major disappointment for people who scraped their cash together in anticipation of a special Stones experience for a lifetime.

That criticism could be voiced and imo should be voiced whereas at this stage in their game, complaining about stadium setlists and, considering their ages and health conditions, Keith's or Ronnie's playing are moot points imo.

That is interesting. Considering how many of TY's songs they've played over the years, there are only 3 they've never played live. OK, fine, but they could've given the album a little bit of a nod with one or two more tracks, aside from one or two shows of Trouble's A Coming.

I keep seeing things about Brown Sugar being dropped... it's not really a big deal since they have so many other songs. And... it's highly unlikely anyone going to a Stones show will be offended by Brown Sugar to begin with.

How awful things have gotten because of being "offended" that even the Stones give in to societal issues that are extremely shallow in general.

Jagger doesn't give a hoot about the band's past. He only uses these reissues to generate a bit of media attention for the band between tours or (as it's the case with the TY case) right before a new tour.
The TY reissue served as a media springboard for the tour. It has served its purpose now it can be disposed of.

Imo Mick's next project is finishing the new album which will be used as a media springboard for the 2022-23 tour. They have like 5 months to wrap it up.

Then after 2023... they call it quits?

Reading all this here and in other threads and even before the tour throughout the year its getting clear:
Not only the band is getting older and due to this fact is performing, behaving, acting different from recent decades.
Also us here the fellow IORR'ers, the die hard fans, got older.
The majority here went to their first Stones-show during the 81/82 US/Europe-tour.
Which is 40 years ago.
But we have people here who saw thm back in 1964 or even earlier and then through the 60ies, 70ies, 80ies, 90ies, 2000ers, 2010ers until today.
They are with the band since 60 years.
And as we are all older now we perform, act, behave different as well.
One of the changes is that many people are not in that euphoric, great, relaxed mood like they were as teens, twens, thirty or even forty-somehings.
Getting older with all the consequences makes you angry from time to time.
You see the world clearer and not through rainbow glasses.
Even a show from the Greatest Rock'n Roll Band of the World, the Rolling Stones,
And sometimes this leads to hard, clear and also sometimes harsh and bitter comments here. They went up by let by ca. 25%. Similar to the aging rate on IORR?
May be. But so what. We are an old band here too. And we still rock. And we still have a great majority of lovely, positive people here. And we all are one family,

I was down in front for this show.

Security wasn't the problem. The people were the problem.

The show sounded great. Much better than shows in Domes.

I was disappointed in the set list. They could have at least given us something instead of leaving the song vote slot off the set list.

I'd still go again in a heartbeat.

Interesting points. Relaxed? No, those days are gone. Young people are euphoric and "relaxed" in that "whatever may come" kind of way. The thing about "relaxed" is that what "comes" when you get older, has to be judged against past glories. There is so much past to carry, and certainly not through rainbow glasses. "I can see clearly now" to qoute Jimmy Cliff. -Could also be said to be one of the premises for having the most responsibility craving jobs in the society.
