Opinions on Rod Stewart's "Street Fighting Man"

I actually like it a lot more than when I first heard it - not so much back then.

I really like it when the "We Love You" sounding piano kicks in to start the second, more Stonesy, part. Great vocals as always on that early 70's Rod stuff.

Loved it then and I love it now. I adore the slow build and the explosion!

Very good album over all, maybe my favorite. Roderick was doing alright in those days.

Next to the Stones it’s the best version out.

Always loved this one and it seemed rare and exotic back in the day. I was first aware of it as a 9-10 y.o. on that 1976 double Best of album, culled from the Mercury albums and singles. Also, the We Love You coda was great and added to to my fascination with it.

Yeah, almost starts out unrecognizable and shifts gears in the middle to the song we all know and love.

Although I like Rod´s music very much, this version is not my cup of tea.

Check out Oasis's version, I like it better than Rod's! It's not on any studio album but it's a B side to All Around The World 1998. Can someone post the Youtube audio.

Oasis version is definitely the best cover that I have heard! I recall not liking the Rod Stewart version much but I probably should give it another listen, don't think I have heard it in 30 years!

Yes, I also like the Oasis version...I was surprised how good it was.

I dig it. But then, I like everything Rod did up to and including Footloose and Fancy Free. His early output was lovely, varied and so well written and recorded. Solo and with The Faces.

Then, with a few isolated song exceptions, the wheels fell off…

Agree, he had a good song here and there after that (Tora! Tora! Tora!, She Won't Dance With Me, Foolish Behavior), but no strong albums to speak of.
