You shouldn't "love" newer bands because you're setting yourself up for disappointment when they start to "branch out" I used to like the Black Keys, only for them to come out with El Camino. For me it was "Oh now you like them too, what a f*king surprise"

So many cringy comments in this thread, but this one wins!

Can't say as i love any new bands, it's been that way for a long time, decades, although there are some fantastic live bands that play in various pubs where i live.
In the 90s we had Guns And Roses, The Black Crows, Green Day, REM , Foo Fighters, Oasis, love all them , but it's all turned to shit since then, let's face it the world turned to shit, it's gone all boring and sensible.

I would hold that as a proud achievement if I didn't know that you cringe all the time

Of the more recent names, one of my favorites is Australian indie rock outfit, Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever (2013-). They sound like something between The Birds and R.E.M. Two released albums are good, and also a hot, vibrant live act, worth catching them if they come near you.

First Aid Kit. They started in 2007. 2 sisters from Stockholm Sweden with a solid backing band. I "discovered" them at the Hardly Strictly Bluegrass festival in SF and two songs in I was looking to see when I could see them again.

Klara Söderberg – vocals, guitar, keyboards (2007–present)
Johanna Söderberg – vocals, bass guitar, keyboards, autoharp (2007–present)
Melvin Duffy – pedal steel guitar, mandolin and electric guitar (2013–present)
Scott Simpson – drums (2015–present)
Steve Moore – keyboards, trombone (2017–present)

This is a pro shot video from their last tour [www.youtube.com]

The last debut album I really liked is Smiling With No Teeth by Genesis Owusu. One of my albums of the year.

I like this guy Betterov from Berlin, active since a year or two.
Rocky neue deutsche Welle, with great lyrics (if you get german).

Otherwise, as usual, metal is still going strong. Lots of young inspired bands, everything self-made.

Peat & Diesel, a fantastic newish band from Isle of Lewis, Scotland. Saw them last night live for the first time and it was a riot!

Mixture of traditional folk music and punk. A bit like a Scottish version of The Pogues....

This song (My Island) comes with a fantastic video, highlighting some wild and rugged places.

Dea Matrona from Belfast started 2018. They were mentioned here on this site at the beginning of the year when they were busking on the streets of Belfast and had a Youtube video of Oh Well, the Peter Green Fleetwood Mac. That vid has almost a million views now.
So many great videos, mostly cover tunes but they're slowly writing more of their own songs. Mollie, 21, sings, plays guitar/bass/piano while Orlaith, 20, sings, plays guitar/bass. Mollie's sister Mamie, 18, plays drums.
So many great Youtube vids: CSNY Helplessly Hoping, Johnny B Goode, Zep Heartbreaker, You're So Vain, 8 Days a Week, etc. Their bass guitar has a Stones tongue on it but I've yet to see a Stones song! Check them out!

Have to say Mammoth with Wolf Van Halen. So talented. Saw him so many times this year when he opened for GNR.

I love Sea Power (formerly “British Sea Power”). But are they a “new” band? They have been around since early 2000’s...

Valerie June, an American singer songwriter and multi-instrumentalist who takes in blues, country, folk, gospel, soul and even psychedelia in an absolutely unique and heart-warming style. Her latest album The Moon And Stars: Prescriptions For Dreamers is my album of the year.

Here's the lead single off it -

Yeah, I love her LP. There is so much good music out there. However for me almost none of good music comes from rock bands at the moment.

Yeah, Wolfie's band is pretty good and, as you know, he played all the instruments on his album! Going back a couple years, all VH fans were wondering what the delay was in releasing the album, not knowing how bad Eddie's health situation was.
Saw him in 07 and 12 when he played bass with VH. One thing that irritates me a bit is when he gets mad in interviews about fans and media asking if he's going to play any VH songs. I think it's a relevant question since his last name is VH and that I doubt G'n'R would have asked him to open for them if his name was Wolfgang Smith!
