What would have been a 1969 tour with BJ ? (inspired by "Brian Jones casket" thread)

Electric, psychedelic Lady Jane instead of Midnight Rambler ?
Sympathy for the Devil with Brian Jones on congas?
Paint it Black instead of Honky Tonk Woman?

Impossible. The Richard Nixon White House would never give him a work visa.

We know.

The no-visa thing was one of the points which lead to sacking Brian Jones.

Forget about it.

This is about an alternative reality 1969 tour.

We forget about visa, Jones firing and Jones death.

So, what it would have been?

Jones jamming with Hendrix backstage at the MSG, instead of Mick Taylor?

A more oriented pop sound instead of raunchy blues rock ?

After the Fort Collins premiere concert Mick and Keith would have told the soundman to "mix the bugger low".

Then, during the following gigs, Keith would have taken rhythm and lead guitar duties. Jones would have left the band early 1970.

most likely it would have been a total disaster - BJ missing more times than showing up. When showing up being totally stoned etc.

yeah what you said doesn't seem like brian wanted to stay in the band much longer anyways
also doesn't seem like mick or keith wanted him there either

but alternate universe and brian was engaged and his input was welcomed by the rest of the band and also assuming that let it bleed was still basicly in the can with the same music on it i think the set would have still included jjf htw mr sfm sftd and satisfaction but the rest would have been different and maybe would have looked similar to the setlists from the 66 67 show with a more experimental phycadelic blues rock sound they would have been more willing to play stuff from earlier in there career like last time it's all over now little red rooster paint it black etc. plus it seems like maybe they would have tried to do some numbers off of satanic like she's a rainbow or 2000 man or maybe 2000 light years
also maybe brian could have gotten hendrix to play altamont which i see going the same way taylor or jones

Given his mental/physical state at the time.....it would have been an awful mess.

Given his musical abilities and if he was healthy...it would have been killer good.

If that was the case Beggars Banquet and Let It Bleed would be not as we know it.

A 1969 U.S. tour that featured Brian Jones, would’ve played-out like The Rock ‘n Roll Circus; it’d have been the Keith Richards show. His lack of interest and participation during the early 1969 sessions for, what became, Let it Bleed, tell us that he was largely disinterested. If the Stones hadn’t of sacked him, and he’d have been granted a visa, Brian Jones would be stood onstage at Maddison Square Garden, contributing very little.

Didn't anyone notice ???
Brian was there all the time and still is ... in spirit. He is now joined by Charlie. They are part of our lives as long as we live, they are part of the lives of Mick, Keith and Ronnie as long as they live ...

He was barely playing rhythm at Rock and Roll Circus. What the hell would he have contributed in 1969 on the road? He was so fragile. And prone to take drugs. Can you imagine him denying what was offered to him, all the time? His health was tenuous. Think he might have missed a few gigs? He barely knew the new songs. This was a hot band. The Rock and Roll Circus Stones were much slower. I can't imagine, and I loved Brian, him actively participating on stage in 1969.

Why stop there? What if Janis Joplin replaced Michelle Phillips in the Mamas and the Papas?

He was pretty good on the 1967 tour, maybe he could have got himself together. I think his main problem was he did not want to play in the band anymore by 1969. Maybe the whole Anita thing plus he could not write pop songs

But there's the hang. They weren't writing pop songs by 1969. They were playing rock, rhythm and blues. They returned to an earthier sound. It should have been in Brian's wheel house. But he lost almost all interest in being with the Rolling Stones.

I often wondered about what if Peter Frampton had joined the Stones rather than Ronnie Wood?

Of course they wouldn't be the same. This whole thread is a "what if" scenario.

If Brian Jones insisted on being in the band, and the band agreed - Mick Jagger wouldn't stopped with Ned Kelly and Performance; he'd be the next James Bond, throughout the 70s.

For instance, what would have become of the recording of Brown Sugar / Wild Horses during the tour? That would certainly have turned out sounding different, if it happened at all.
