Got really disappointed with ticketmaster this morning trying to buy a single ticket for Hollywood/FL. Btw, I had the same issues many of you had.
But worst is to see scalpers acting almost at the same time within ticketmaster. Really disappointing.

Then one friend sent me this note about scalping in the US:

"Approximately 16 of the 50 states have a law that makes scalping illegal. Seven states — Alabama, Georgia, Illinois, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York and Pennsylvania — require a special license to resell tickets. Four states — North Dakota, South Dakota, Ohio and Virginia — leave the issue up to local municipalities." [www.mylawquestions.com]

Well, it seems tickets scalping is "legal" in Florida, right?

What can we do? :-|

P.S. Appreciate if someone could help me out with a single ticket for a fare price so I can plan my trip accordingly and make my dream come true seeing the Stones in Hollywood/FL. Thanks a lot, sorry for the long text and I'm happy for real fans who made it. But I really had to share this w/you. Thanksssss

I think we all new this would be a tough ticket to get at any price. About 30 minutes before they went on sale via Ticketmaster, I looked at Stubhub, like many others, and saw several tickets already posted. I don't mind paying the money for this trip/concert but i would rather put this money toward Europe next year for a show or two. Good luck to everyone.

I have pretty much given up on going to Europe next year, went for this show instead. :-) I will miss that trip.

Possibly the last show ever

That’s the same thinking that made me splurge for tix for this show.

Of course thought the same thing in Newark in 2012.

Will be a cool show for sure. B B King was 88 when he played his last gig I think.

I got in while getting a haircut on my phone... at 10:01 I even spent a minute deciding how much I was willing to go... would have never hesitated on Pit for $1006 at face as I have for Atlanta and Tampa this leg. Plus no hotel needed or flight but I set limits so I actually stuck with them. Got 304 row b $581 which is really $632 with fees.I was surprised it was so easy as I got Beacon on ABB and Orpheaum on Licks late at night on TM with ticket drops that were the norm it seems.

I knew we were having huge demand and thought we wouldn't see 3,000 tix actually hit market on TM so no surprise there.Look The Stones, Promoters, and Venue all saw they left money on the table as tix sold for insane amounts for years around this band.

Living here in Fort Lauderdale though I knew there was going tough we have so much new money here and lots who would decide to go and not even stay for entire show for $5k-10k its not an issue but they aren't the worse there are just so many who would pay 3-4-5 times face to not have anything but a simple transaction fuels this practice.

Either way hope we get some real gems as its a nice place to have fun. Ive gone to a few Dolphin Related events here and had fun. Had a tent who is a Sues Chef there and those looking for a nice few days will enjoy.
Me... id rather go east 20 minutes and hit the beach at Los Olas... its not South Beach and thats a good thing smiling smiley

What is the general view here on whether ticket prices will drop as yesterday's frenzy wears off? I want to go but not willing to pay much above face.

Doesn't like face value will be back anytime soon. Maybe as it gets close to day of show.. TM and Hard Rock master the art of marketing deception... and tickets are now higher today.. the face value was a joke.. inwas on web for nearly hour and multiple devices and got shut out every time went to book..

Funny...I received an email from Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats yesterday. They are one of my fav bands and opened for the Stones in Denver on the last tour. Their email offers their fans an opportunity to get tickets by lotter and specifically mentions how the do this to avoid bots and secondary ticket vendors. Even if you are not selected it still gives you time to obtain tickets thru a general public sale. The Stones are the biggest and best in the business in my book... and I am a fan of the Lucky Dip process...but it does seem like they could do a better job of getting the tickets into fans hands and not leaving it up to Ticketmaster. There are plenty of big name acts that do the same. Dave Matthews (not a big fan), Dead & Co (fan!).

I was also wonder if the fans in Europe have similar experiences in purchasing tickets. Tickmaster was a disaster yesterday as I outlined my experience in posts yesterday. I understand there was high demand for tickets but seeing tickets available and not being able to purchase them was ....wrong. Well, let me clarify, TM would not let me purchase tickets in the $400-700 range even thought I could see them available. They apparently didnt trust the device I was on. They would let me purchase two tickets for a combined total of over $9K ...then then trusted my device.

I still want to understand what happened with the whole "you can't use this device to purchase" message so many of us were getting.. Last night after the sell-out TM let me move forward with platinum prices on the same device, so thinking it's really not my "device." -- No, didn't buy, just a test

It's easy to think something sneaky going on, but what's the point of something sneaky? All money is money and others were being allowed to purchase.

High sun activity? People gaming system by piggybacking off your IP address or some other computer voodoo (a friend told me this one). I'm neither a scientist or computer specialist so I don't know, but I do know if you get to the window at an actual box office and there are tickets available you can buy one as long as you have the money.

I'm fine with not getting a ticket, the shows I've seen have been fantastic, but I am one of those "need to understand what's happening" guys. Drives me nuts

ticketmaster has been a corrupt organization since its founding. In the analog days you would camp outside an outlet and miraculously 10 minutes after tickets went on sale a scalper would appear at the back of the line with great tickets in hand. The technology just makes it easier to be incredibly shady. Savvy buyers know the platinum pricing strategy most always leads to really good seats available 1-2 days before a show at a true face value. (Stones in 7000 seat venue may be an exception) From a business standpoint you have to hand it to them as the price skimming strategy certainly maximizes their revenue particularly since the fees go up in proportion with the ticket price even though there's no extra costs for ticketmaster to support. They are truly a fans nightmare given that they act as both initial seller and scalper at the same time.

thanks

so what would be point of refusing an order on an available ticket though? if they're guiding it back towards scalper isn't price the same? Or is there a kickback? Get buyer to panic and try for platinum? The "device doesn't work" scam (if it is one) I have trouble seeing the reasoning.. if it was just me I'd really think sun spots, but I read so many getting that message and then miraculously everything worked once sold out

Imagine if you arrived at the box office and multiple categories of tickets were available but you weren’t allowed to buy the cheaper tickets because you had the wrong type of wallet.

This is what ticketmaster are doing digitally and people keep falling for it.

There are all sorts of blocking tactics TM uses against people or devices that abuse the site, hammering it with multiple ticket requests per IP but they do block out regular fans trying to get tickets. These blocks are tighter during the initial onsale period.

There are lots of tickets left, they trickle out the platinums using artificial scarcity, whether it's resale enabled or not, platinum tickets are often priced against tickets they receive from the resale feed.

I am certainly not going to give up on trying to get tickets for this show but I just don't think I've got much of a chance at getting two tickets at a decent price (up to $750 each) thru ticketmaster. I might be surprised though so we will see.

What an absolute mess and rip off for genuine Rolling Stones fans who want to see the band performing live.

...

How The Rolling Stones let tickets be sold for this gig this way, by ticketmaster, Stubhub, and all the other scalper sites is a disgrace. sad smiley

The Stones have nothing to do with StubHub or the resale sites. No control over them.

Well they should have control of the price of the tickets, as the price shown for all the tickets doesn't change until right up to the very moment they go on sale.................. and then you see a much, much higher price than you expected, and if that's not enough, they go through the roof within an hour or two.

If you think that's fair, and The Rolling Stones think that's a fair way to get the money coming in to their pockets, that's up to you.

I personally think it's a disgrace. sad smiley

The Stones are working for a guaranteed fee. It's the promoter who sets the ticket prices.

No, I don't think Platinum pricing (Ticketmaster scalping their own tickets) or the resale market is "fair".

I just said the Stones don't control the resale market.

Well they should have some control in the contract with the promoter as to what happens to the tickets that end up with scalpers like Stubhub and the others.

Strict rules they have in place with Lucky Dips, with fans who try to get a decent price for hopefully The Pit................ but whatever ticket you get, you haven't been ripped off.

Well done to The Rolling Stones for us fan's getting the Lucky Dips. thumbs up

I wouldn't have thought that was an idea of the promoter or ticketmaster, so to The Rolling Stones................ take control of the rip offs that are happening in a one off gig to the fans and public in a casino.

Casino's like the one their playing on this last gig of USA Tour are never gonna be short of money anyway.

Robbing the poor to feed the rich comes to mind.

Resellers are also assuming some of the risk the promoter is taking by paying such a high upfront fee. Tickets are so expensive that unlike Lucky Dips they don't care who is buying them or why. They are tickets the promoter doesn't have to worry about selling.

There were several instances I witnessed my own eyes this summer where LiveNation starts selling the premium tickets they hold back for platinums at half price. You think anybody in the band or in the main office is going to complain about the all the tickets the scalpers bought?

I guess what gets me is that the Stones are known to be this first class organization. That seems to be generally true ...and they earned that. Unfortunately, TM is known to be the opposite of a first class organization and this experience has left more than a few folks with ...not so fond memories. I learned a while ago to not just complain about a problem ...but to also offer a solution. How about two shows? One that lets the market determine the ticket price and the other a little more fan friendly with some type of random lottery with reasonably priced tickets. Also, I must mention that I am big fan of the Lucky Dip process and feel the need to point that out...that the band does take steps to get reasonably prices tickets to their fans.

Thanks Dan! I appreciate you discussing this.. So, thoughts on an answer during these "blocks?" What kind of device should a person buy? Should TM invent a special laptop wired directly to them that we can lease from them prior to ticket releases used only for purchasing tickets from them? .. Or is it more like the poster above hints that a small percentage of buyers will get through but others will be forced to buy platinum if they want a ticket? .. Not trying to be smartass.. But beyond silly to actually get through and then not being "allowed" to purchase.. Of course with the money I didn't get to spend I could repurchase a new copy of every Stones album instead, a few of them are beginning to skip.

Thx in advance for your answer, I'll stop beating this horse now

Reselling tickets is legal in most states.

BTW I don't think the casino/venue itself is making money on ticket sales.
