Let's Go Steady Again official release
Posted by: Mathijs ()
Date: October 6, 2021 12:55

Has it been mentioned here that Let's Go Steady Again has been officially released by Kristi Kimsey on 'As I Look Back'? Available on Spotify.

Wyman bass, Watts drums, Bobby Keys and possibly Wood sax, Keith and Wood guitar, piano unknown but could be Ian McLagan.

Yes, it was mentioned in the "Tattoo You" Deluxe thread as a track that could/should have been there.

The way that Chris Kimsey seems to describe it or certainly implies is that other than Keith singing vox with Kristi, it is not a Stones' track at all but a track made with the core band of Frank Carillo, Kevin Keane, David Donen, and Jan Fairchild with her husband, Chris Kimsey, playing percussion.

DandelionPowderman, I am hopeful that you are correct.

Curious as to what is your source for this roster of musicians for this track? The back of or liner notes for the LP or our apocryphal intuitive sources or Mr. Zentgraf? It would seem that if the Stones really played on this (other than it being a suet with Keith), Chris Kimsey would have stated it on the web page, no?

Keith's take is far better, right?
All the sugar and saccharine on the original have been thankfully removed.

Interestingly, the copyright is held by Mindless Records LLC (Keith's company) rather than Promotone B.V. (Stones company). This suggests The Stones had no intention of releasing it on TATTOO YOU's reissue and willingly surrendered the copyright to Keith. It also reinforces that The Stones are legally identified as Mick + 2 others the public would generally recognize as band members. This was first put in place because of the likelihood of bandmates dying of an overdose or being incarcerated in the 1970s. It must still stand or Charlie and Ronnie (or even Bill) would still make this a Promotone copyright they would all share in. Without Mick's consent, it is clear tracks not featuring him are not legally Rolling Stones recordings. This offers further clarity on why Don Was had to jump through hoops to get three Keith lead vocals on BRIDGES TO BABYLON. It's not just about Mick wanting to sing most of the songs.

Is the official release different than the versions (I and II) that have circulated on bootlegs?

Keith and Ronnie's official version from "New Barbarians - Buried Alive" is pretty fun as well.
