Just watched/listened to the St. Luis Show... Can confirm. It also it seems like they are able to channel their emotion into the music which adds to the performance.

It's sad this great board has been reduced to approved fan club material like this.

.

I don’t think he was referring to Steve Jordan.

I think as Charlie got older he could not keep up with the songs with a faster tempo which is why some songs were done slower.

Steve Jordan on the other hand is younger and can probably still carry a faster beat.

Just my observation but it sure makes good sense to me.

I'd agree with this. Seems to me that Charlie and Keith slowed things down quite a bit on the No Filter tour specifically.

It seems with Jordan, he's out in front and at time it seems like the songs are moments away from collapsing as a unit because Ron, Keith, and even Mick (vocally) are struggling to keep pace, not always, but also more than once a show.

I'm not sure it's really Steve Jordan per se that's reinvigorated the band, but more due to the fact that Charlie has passed away. Keith, Mick, and Ronnie have taken their sorrow and turned into a giant ball of energy.
That said, I did notice at one point Darryl getting in to a serious hard groove with Steve - focusing and staring at eachother...might have been 19th Nervous Breakdown - they were tight!

I like Steve's attitude and approach a lot better than Darryl's. Steve knows some of Charlie's drumming is an actual part of the song, and how it is to be played. Darryl rarely respects that Bill's bass parts are in the foundation of certain songs. I don't hear Darryl doing the Bo Diddley diving bass runs at the end of 19th Nervous Breakdown. Kudos to Steve Jordan for getting it.

I think Darryl did the bass run outro on Thursday - or at least an approximation of it. The only mildly inspired thing he's done with the Stones in 27 years.

Yeah i tend to think Bill was so much better, but if you leave this band the door gets locked behind you and they throw away the key. .
Ronnie probably could have done with a few more months recovery but thought shit Waddy might turn up for rehearsals.

This band is destined to become the Expensive Stones.

I think they both threw away the key, though the band left the door unlocked long after Bill waved goodbye. I watched a video from 1972 to make sure my eyes and ears weren't deceiving me. With all this talk of current greatness, I wanted to make sure they were any good at all in the past, when you paid 5 bucks to see them in an arena. Turns out they were incredible. On a whole other level. I know that tours were money losers then. The idea was to promote the band and sell albums. Almost all money comes from touring now, so the poor dears have to charge $450 to see their wrinkles close up. Or more for an 'intimate' 7,000 in a casino in an ersatz Hollywood.

Is that part of their mystique now? How much it costs to see them? I would pony up $450 to see 'that' Stones from 1972, or the Zenith of all Stones bands, the 1973 European tour. Maybe that's what the heirs will charge to see them as holograms in twenty years.

In my opinion Steve is doing a great job and is the best choice. I hope he's involved in the new album as well.

Judging by Getty images we are watching holograms now winking smiley how do their wrinkles disappear on Stage, especially Mick who looked older in 1998 confused smiley

I don't go back as far as 72 but in many ways ( due to technology ) you could argue they are playing better now than in 1981, although not as good as in 89' 90'

It's a tough one to call, such a shame their shows were so short in 72' and were limited in their catalogue.

You're right. The setlist in '72 was like 15 songs. But weren't they sometimes doing two shows a day? And the energy level was through the roof. The catalogue was limited because they were pushing recent product. 8 of the 15 songs were either Sticky Fingers, or Exile, with four of the others from Let It Bleed. They did nothing older than Beggars Banquet era, unless you want to count the one Chuck Berry number Bye Bye Johnny.

As for Steve Jordan, I watched some Dallas clips. They do appear to be struggling to keep up with them, which is what Charlie did to them to. Though I do think Mr. Watts had slowed considerably on some songs the last few tours. It's good that Steve is kicking their butts again. They should be hot and lathered up and ready to tour more, or get in there and finish that album.

In my opinion Steve Jordan has chosen to really take it easy, to only provide the backbeat and that's it. No frills and thrills, nothing special. He does not have the swing Charlie had, and by taking it easy it all sounds very lackluster. And unfortunately his hard hitting snare has returned as well....

It makes the Stones very much sound like a Stones cover band. And not a really good one at that, as I think all really are too old now to do these kind of shows. I watched SMU from Dallas and I find it painful to watch in all honesty.

Overall for 99% of what I’ve listened to and watched on YouTube, Steve has reinvigorated the band and put the tempo back into many songs that needed pace, except START ME UP, that I’ve not enjoyed for many years, it feels like a CHUG, Ronnie never gets the solo, and there are no dynamics within the song, the contrast of drums/percussion against the Rythm guitar on record is a subtle concoction, but LIVE CURRENTLY it certainly has none of the new energy that most ic the rockers have had on this tour….

I feel like I can enjoy Steve's drumming for about a minute of each song, then it becomes a matter of enduring it

But compared to Talk Is Cheap , his drumming with the Stones sounds like a gentle drop of rain majestically falling into a wistfully poised leaf.

Its not the same without Charlie but Steve defenitley has given the band a shot of adrenaline.
They seem to be really "on" this tour.

I compare it to when the Grateful Dead lost their keyboard player Brent Mydland.
Vince Welnick and Bruce Hornsby filled in for the keys.
You could tell that Garcia was totally invigorated by his new keyboard players.

Quite elegiac. I don't have a problem with Steve Jordan's drumming on this tour. Then again I don't know how it would stand up in Surround Sound on a DVD. That's what reinforced how good Bill was. All the clips are from people's phones on YouTube. Considering the circumstances, I think he's doing a great job. Maybe he's toned down that late 80s drumming. I noticed he's got one of Charlie's tricks. Not hitting the drum. Holding the stick back when it's expected to hit, creating that little offbeat, hiccup, whatever you want to call it.
