OT: RIP Commander Cody

Someone from another time and place that made some cool music. He's best known for the song, Hot Rod Lincoln, but I prefer the hippiesque song, Seeds and Stems, which is a great country weeper. I am absolutely sure that a number of folks here on IORR have been at a "seeds and stems so what am I gonna toke" stage in their lives.

I saw him many years ago, opening for Dave Mason..circa 1978/79. Great band with him. Rock n roll.

The classic album of Commander Cody & his Planet Airmen is

Live From Deep In The Heart Of Texas (1973)

You cannot compare it with Stones music but it ist thoroughly enjoyable.

R.I.P. Commander Cody ! I met and hung out with him way back in the late 90's before a show of his and the nicest and most laid back guy without any ego . Really good guy and a heck of a performer !

In California in the 1970s, if you asked someone how they were doing, they might answer "Seeds and stems again." It was part of the vernacular.

Hammersmith Odeon 1976, supported by Barry Melton (ex-CJ & The Fish). Missed the last train and had to walk 20 miles home with my friend Paul. Top gig, excellently reviewed by Mick Farren in the NME

About the same time I saw the Sex Pistols...

Live music sure was varied in them days. In a two week period I saw Van Der Graaf Generator, The Pink Fairies, Kevin Ayers and The Clash...
