OT: An appreciation of the late Warren Zevon

Not an easy performer to get into. Most people know him through the "Werewolves of London" song. I am sure a number of us have howled along with this song. Can't say I know or have heard all of his stuff, though, I have a few albums by him. He's one of those artists, IMHO, you either end up digging or not.

I absolutely love Warren Zevon. His biggest strength was probably as a lyricist, but he could definitely hook you with a melody as well.

Excitable Boy is a great album. Waddy Watchel on guitar.

I listened to some more of his stuff on Spotify but it didn't quite grab me as much as the songs on that album. I think it's maybe time to have another listen.
I'll check out the above 5 songs ,,,,,

Roland The Headless Thompson Gunner was the last live song from Zevon on Letterman. Letterman really appreciated Zevon, as did Paul the bandleader.

My favourite Zevon song is Accidentally Like A Martyr:

A really good read is “I’ll Sleep When I’m Dead” by Crystal Zevon. One of the best books on the life in rock limelight. And how things can go wrong, but also right, then wrong. Then he got ill. He was amazing.

Funny you brought up this topic today. Just yesterday I heard Werewolves on the car radio and I indeed “howled along”. How can you not?!?

His Keep Me in Your Heart always moves me. The more I age, the more meaningful it becomes.

Stand in the Fire is a fantastic live record. "My <stuff>'s F'd Up" is 1 of my favorite songs too. Know the feeling!

Yes "Stand In The Fire" is a great live album! A very rocking band and was rereleased not long ago with bonus tracks.
I don't have all of his albums; a couple favorite tracks though are from
his album called "Life'11 Kill Ya"
"I Was In The House When The House Burned Down" and a cover of
Steve Winwood's "Back In The High Life Again" that I saw used in a movie and had forgotten he'd covered it. The scene it was used in made the movie more memorable, so I found I liked it much more after that. He was not the greatest singer but like Bob Dylan, used what he had in the best way he could.
Another track from his last album, "The Wind" called "Disorder In The House" has a duet and, believe it or not an actual guitar solo or two from Bruce Springsteen!
I like Bruce's more rock 'n' roll songs and not so much all of the 10 minute plus ballads or story songs. A friend of mine was a big Nils Lofgrin fan and we saw Bruce with Nils in his band. My friend said Bruce Springsteen is the only artist I know who can have 3 guitar players and you can barely hear one of them.
Anyway, yes loved Warren and his sense of humor and wit. A big loss.
