Yeah, RIP, "Le Magnifique", a legend in his own right !

For the French speakers here is a great interview from May 2001, a few months before the massive stroke that left him very diminished for the rest of his life.

Belmondo was a great actor, full of french elegance, rough, with a great sense of humour.I remember watching some of his movies with my parents. From what I read, he treated everybody on a filmset with respect. He is an essential part of a golden era of french cinema.

He was a character, well known for 40 theatre and around 80 movie appearances. RIP Jean Paul Belmondo

He made those big fat Gauloises memorable. When I die, I'd like a big fat Gauloise in my mouth and a doting blonde hovering all over me. Not a bad way to go....

Very famous in Europe, not that much in UK or US.
People from my generation grew up with his movies.
Guess that his unique sense of humor always failed to cross the ocean.
Great memories.

He was great in the masterpiece "Le doulus" from 1962. Also he was a tough guy, did all his stunts himself. RIP
